@crayonpentagram
For that exact reason, so it can't be stolen.
Why do you all sell right away

Ship battles aren't even worth the time if you all sell constantly. Me and my crew never sell until we are getting off.
Phrasing!
@mattydove74
Don't know about you, but me and my crew get off when we sell our loot. Whether it's an hour or just 20 minutes, we get off every time.@crayonpentagram I sell right away because I can never tell when the game will decide to disconnect my session thanks to the most recent patch.
Prior to that, I used to roll up to outposts with gold spilling off the deck!

I sale often because for some reason I randomly loose connection. I don’t drop from the Xbox party. Never loose internet. Just occasionally loose connection to the game. All though this isn’t as big a deal when not playing solo. They can usually go a man down for the min or two it takes me to get back in. Thus I only sell often when solo.

i never sell before having at least 10-15 treasures unless we have something really valuable like stronghold loot or a legendary chest
That's about right when I run a 2-man sloop. For a solo sloop it can be much less.
@crayonpentagram Pick your targets wisely. The sloop sitting at an outpost might not be the best ship to sink, but one that just left an island might be. If you really want to put some effort into stealing someone's loot, then follow them as they go from island to island on their voyage. Just remember to keep your distance and hide your ship as much as you can. I suggest making your approach while they are at a large island so they are more likely to be there longer and less likely to see you coming.
It's a question of risk/reward. The time spent going to an outpost is time you could spend getting more treasure. On the other hand it could all be lost at any time if you didn't git gud enough to protect it. So it comes down to how confident you are in your ability to keep other players from stealing it.
If my group has a decent haul it's being turned in, it's fun the odd time to fight but with the rate of the rep grind and how scarce forts can be without resorting to server hopping it's just not worth losing all that time for. Some nights you can only get one multi-part voyage done in 3+ hours and the rewards are nothing to be proud of but at least turning it in is something vs spending more time fighting just to watch it sink.
Even a SLoop
Point is, We play the game the way its menat to be played.. We are out there, we wont run from you, Our time, and our loot is Worth fighting for, and we will fight.
Oh and we steal alot too!
If their time isnt worth fighting for, thats on them
@crayonpentagram Because of the PvP and being solo. And because we cannot stash our booty anyplace else but on the ship. For example, I was going for the 20 chest achievement and when I went back to the location where I was stashing stuff the chest count went from 8 to 2. W*F?! Pirates stash stuff, that's what they do to keep others from finding and stealing it.
early on right after launch i was solo slooping and had 8 chests on board. i was being chased by a galleon with full 4 crew. they were coming in fast behind me catching up quickly the only thing i could think of is get on their boat and pull their anchor. so i jump over and miraculously grabbed the ladder and got on board. i pulled their anchor immediately and one of them spotted me. i blunderbussed him but he didnt die so i ran in with my sword and finished him off. his only pistol shot completely missed. the other 3 swarmed me but i ran downstairs and finished them off 1 by 1. the other one respawned and started pulling up their anchor but i snuck up and killed him again. i then climbed up their crows nest and dropped down all 3 tnt barrels. i was setting them up to make a chain effect on the bottom floor but i got stuck with the 2nd barrel and we all blew up. i swear ive never been called so many horrible things in my entire life.
when i respawned on my boat it was completely fine but i managed to get there just in time as it crashed into a rock and save the loot. i turned back back to find the galleon had left me 2 villainous skulls, 1 captains chest and a couple others
it was one of the best experiences ive had in this game. i was risking so much and the fact that i also got a pretty nice reward for fending them off successfully really topped it off.
risking a lot adds some more emotion to it i think its fun.Because it's tactically sound that's why. Unless you're trying to create bait to snag even more riches from another ship, there's no point in actively making yourself a target purely to give another crew a reward, that's madness!
Conversely, I don't find much point cashing in for just one item, unless it's a cursed chest. Three to five is usually my risk tolerance, unless there's a lot more to get from the same location.
I see the argument: more unclocked treasure = more risk = more adrenaline.
My crew.. we start getting twitchy quite quickly in a sloop.. even though its easier to evade people in. So we clock stuff in fairly frequently then.
Galleon? Less frequently. Mostly because you can spare a crew member to guard / be a lookout

I think this last update did it for me. I haven't had a single server issue all weekend. It was so much fun :D
