Scuttle Ship Cool Down

  • Ever since the update that spawned ships farther away from where they died, players have been abusing the scuttle ship feature in order to get closer to where they died, or from my experience, get closer to the Skull Fort.

The idea of being able to scuttle your ship because of griefers is a great idea, but it is being abused. Once you scuttle your ship, you get spawned on the complete other side of the map. The odds of that same ship, let alone any other ship, finding you within a few minutes is almost impossible. There needs to be a cool down added to prevent players from abusing the ability to rush back to where they were. A 5 or 10 minute cool down would be perfect.

Again, the whole idea of being able to scuttle your ship is to get away from griefers. It is not so you can teleport all over the map so you can either chase some ship that sunk you or to go running back to the Skull Fort.

  • Agreed. My crew got bored and quit the other day because ever time we got within cannon range of another ship, they would just scuttle instead of fight. This is a full PVP open world game. How can we make our own adventure if the adventure we want is to be actual pirates and just take stuff from other players who think running missions is fun, if they just scuttle the second they see our mast on the horizon?

IMO the scuttle option should not unlock until you have respawned to your ship once. if you are killed again within 2-5 minutes of respawn, then the anti-grief can kick in and allow you to scuttle.

  • i would be down with a 2-5 min cooldown.

but @CaptCrustybeard... seriously if they are scuttling then they dont have any loot that they care about to begin with.
its the ones that don't scuttle are the ones you want.

sure its fun to fight other ships. but if they dont want to fight dont have any loot and are just about to start a mission and want to be left alone. more power to them.

Yes, its true that if they scuttle they are worthless targets to begin with. Just seems like an abuse of the system, and makes it a bit unfair to the ones that actually have loot and cant just scuttle. Points a big ol neon sign at them. If everyone had to fight and/or surrender (should add a signal flag system for that, TBH), then things would be more interesting for everyone.

  • If they skuttle the ship, then they obviously don't have any loot. So what does it matter, means they have just saved you from wasting time on them. Don't really see an issue here at all.

I've had a ship scuttle with decent loot on it. I'm more frustrated with people using it to run back to Skull Forts. If you manage to get yourself killed by someone there, you shouldn't be able to exploit your way back.
