A great addition to the game would be community goals. These are weekly (or even monthly) missions that every player can do and each individual progress counts towards the whole community progress.
A game that does this REALLY well and even ties it to some of the biggest changes within the game is ELITE Dangerous. In this game, the completion of a community goal by the community can lead to the deployment of a new advanced outpost deep into the galaxy, which will forever change the game and it serves as a tangible reward within the game. It even affects the lore sometimes.
Community goals in Sea of Thieves could be something like:
- Kill 50,000 skeletons as a community. The reward being better loot, or more skeleton forts activated for a limited time.
- Deliver X number of exotic tea to the Plunder Outpost. Which would lead to an increase in this item's value for a while.
If you haven't heard of community goals and would like to learn more, I strongly suggest you to see how they work in ELITE Dangerous, as I think they have pretty much perfected it in their game.
Any other ideas or suggestions?
