Did RARE get too ambitious?

  • I know we’re creeping up on the month mark since release but I’m seeing a shift in the gameplay of players in game and the frustrations of players on the forums. Boredom is setting in and I hope RARE adds some positivity with their road map update.

Here’s my question though... a purely open PVPVE game is a huge undertaking and balancing act when it’s a pure open world. By not focusing on anything specific and relying on the player to create their own content did they just get too ambitious? I think that may be the root issue and it’s going to take them at least a year to add enough to the game to retain a SOLID player base not just made up of die hard loyalists.

Curious to know other player’s thoughts though...

  • @oniji-yi Your right, but everyone is gonna complain that you made this post.

  • @oniji-yi I mean, the foundation of the game is solid I think they just need to add more 'beef', we know they are capable the game is beautiful, some of the gold hoarders quests are really freaking fun! solving riddles and figuring our where treasure is buried. The kraken could be improved but it's not BAD currently, and the sharks are scary.. it's just.. they're not quite enough to get your teeth in to! I think one of the main problems is inflation, players are earning gold but have little to do with it at the moment! And thus players can't set themselves 'aims' to strive for. The game could really use more things to buy for your ship, perhaps a crafting system to make unique cannon balls, just things to add LONGEVITY to the game which is what it really lacks. There are many ways they could go about this but it just needs something.

I wouldn't say they were too ambitious because this game has plenty of good directions it could go in to be something amazing! PvPvE is not badly balanced, perhaps it could be made more enjoyable for all as people don't like being sunken and losing all of their loot, but that was their primary aim and personally I find that aspect fun, it adds a sense of thrill to the game especially when being chased.

I'm pacing myself because I don't want it to become too repetitive as I really enjoy it, I'm still saving up for sail colours but after that I don't know what I will do...
