There needs to be a boat for crews of three players that is bigger than the sloop but smaller than the galleon with less sails and a lesser anchor raise time because it’s not fun to ever just play with three because the galleon is too much work for just three. It’s hard to also run into a crew of 2 or 4 just making 3’s irrelevant and not fun and a waste, I understand you can pick up fandoms and meet new players but sometimes I just wanna play with my friends and people I already know. I think it would be a fun and good addition to the game
Making a smaller ship for 3 person crews, galleon is too big
I think the bigger issue is that half the time 1 or 2 people aren't doing anything. It's not so bad when there's 4 in the group, but when someone isn't doing anything with 3 in the group it becomes a much bigger deal.
Me and my buddy 2-manned a Galleon for awhile one day. It really wasn't that difficult to sail... but once we got into battles it did become a bit overwhelming. Going between 2-manning a sloop and 3-manning a Galleon does feel like a step backwards.
Like I can solo a sloop pretty damn efficiently. 2-men who know what they're doing is like super casual where you can get up and take bathroom breaks, and grab beers while taking turns sailing. While 3 manning a galleon requires all hands on deck to get anywhere near the same efficiency.
I do think a 3rd ship with some overlap would be good. Still allow teams to 3-4 man a galleon and 1-2 man a sloop. But make a ship that's inbetween difficulty-wise, which you can shoose to 2 or 3 man. Maybe give it only 2 cannons per side, make it's ability to turn and it's speed with the wind, and the raise-anchor speed halfway between the galleon and sloop. Give it 2 sails for that extra thing to micromanage. And give it 2 cannon barrels so it can max at 200 cannon balls.
So a 2 man team can choose between a small or medium ship, and a 3 man team can choose between a medium or large ship. Depending on how good the players are, you may opt for the bigger ship for the extra speed, firepower, and intimidation factor. Or if you think you might have another person joining your party, you could have a free spot left on your ship to invite them later.
I'm all for it, but I'm not sure it needs to be a high-priority for the game. The current game loop needs more content more than anything.
