I'm glad Rare is working on making PC and Xbox compatible, but there seems to be more incompatible issues that are wasting time that could be used elsewhere. Has Rare ever considered having separate servers for Xbox from PC users? Have you or Microsoft collected any data or surveys to see if cross- platform play is or is not a selling point? Or if it's a benefit or nuisance on the servers? I know maybe only one or two friends who play on PC and the other hundreds on Xbox. Perhaps a separation is better for everyone? Prove me otherwise.
Separating Xbox and PC
There are no incompatible issues.
Xbox players just watch the streamers on Twitch play on PC and think that every PC gamer is as good as them even though the streamers play 12hrs a day 7 days a week and your average PC gamer plays just a few hours on weekends.
I hope Rare will release some stats about Xbox vs. PC players soon so that people will see that there is no difference.
The Issue I keep having is With PC players is Cheating/Modding
When I encounter rapid fire cannonballs coming at you, invincible players, and instant repairs on the enemy ship, it's always a PC player. This Totally ruins the game experience. Don't tell me to just report the gamer tag and hopefully someday it might be taken care of. if you separate the servers all your console gamers will be much happier and not have to deal with it at all.You just want to separate the PC and Xbox gamers for the sake of separating them? I'm not sure what we're supposed to prove otherwise, your experience of having most of your friends be on Xbox or what? I don't understand what you're asking.
Anyway, I like the fact I can play on my Xbox, and later pick up the game on my PC with the same character and progress. I don't see what the issue is. There is no keyboard/mouse advantage or anything like that since this isn't a tactical FPS game.
@greaseman85 It's the Cheating and modding, that simple. until you can 100% eliminate this from the game, the servers should be separated, cause all the cheating is on the PC side.
@rico-redstar i rapid fire with an Xbox as well. You just have to press Y and RT fast enough
But we had a weird situation as well yesterday, with apparently invincible oneshotters
@rico-redstar No way. I love being able to switch from PC to Xbox in living room. Cross play was a selling point for me. I can play with my wife and be in the same room. Coming across hackers is rare. People are just freaked out, because they know that m*********e hacks the most out of all the platforms, but I haven't seen any. Some players are just bad and get beat, then blame hacks. Some players are just better at aiming with a mouse. Boats are hard to sink right now if there is a competent crew on board. You're probably taking more hits than the enemy if you think they're invincible. Or they're eating your bananas. If you separate the player base, people will still suck, people will still be good and I won't be able to play with friends.
I also have a pc and play this game on it, I agree that being able to play side by side with someone is pretty cool, but I also think you should be able to opt out of it because of the massive amount of cheating going on. When I say the enemy is insta fixing their boat, I mean that I was on the enemy boat and watched 4 bottom deck holes get patched without anyone there. When I say that they were rapid firing cannons, it wasn't 3 guys on a gallion, it was 1 guy on a sloop shooting roughly 25 cannonballs without reloading or stopping to get more ammo. This simply doesn't happen with Xbox players. So until you can stop modders/cheaters massively coming from the PC there should be a way to opt out
@rico-redstar I agree, there should be an option to opt out of cross plat forming.then people that want to x platform can and those that don’t want to don’t have to.
This isnt an ultra competitive FPS there is no need to segregate platforms. One of the main reasons i play SoT (and other Xbox, play anywhere titles) is so i can play with my friends and wife who play on consoles only. Those crying about the "PC advantage" need to take a look at their lives or simply move on.

100% agree. I've been playing a lot and rarely feel that any enemy is "unbeatable." I'm sure there are people hacking, but I am still not seeing many in action for me to b***h about it.
I wonder how many of theses "hackers" and "griefers" are still playing now that the MS game pass trials are winding down past the 14 day mark.
@namnorisdog actually there are huge advantage on PvP for PC players. When it comes to aiming and movement.
But the crossplay feature is much more then just PvP... Is about linking players. And making powerful allies.
So yeah, I'm an Insider, founder, and Pioneer. I played this almost all the time and never felt a disadvantage in anything even with the crossplay thing. Since launch I needed to adjust my way of playing this to an indirect PvP player because it's useless to fight PC players even the noobiest of the noobs is better than me.
But I wouldn't switch off the crossplay for anything.
Because it's awesome! And I've made so many friends I wouldn't make without it. And this game isn't all about PvP.I can make friends and allies with players outside of my crew so often because I'm not afraid of communication and to be friendly and open to others.

I love the fact that they combined the player base. Ensures there's always plenty of people around to play with.
I'm not convinced this is true. I would really like to see the stats on how many people are on which system within a weeks timeframe at any given hour. Rare said they initially didn't anticipate the amount of players online at first, do my assumption is there's always plenty of gamers in both platforms. I also think there's more people on Consoles playing multiplayer games and more players on PC playing single player games ( but I have no stats to prove this theory).

That's an excellent point! Now that the game pass trial is over with, I also am curious how many people stopped playing?
@namnorisdog in general i want MORE cross platform s**t... no need to buy an xbox when a gaming pc is the same thing but better
also, in the long run, no need to split up the player base... game is stronger if all players are on the same servers

You are definitely right about making friends - I enjoy making new friends as well, but there's still issues that clearly separate the two groups. Sometimes PC gamers don't have mics to communicate. Sometimes PC gamers type chat and Xbox'ers are stuck with default text. I mean how can I get a PC gamer with no mic to raise the anchor??? I have also found PC gamers Excel at PVP movement and shooting tactics... Not sure what this stems from, but definitely puts Xbox'ers at a disadvantage. In summary, cross-platform is fun, but there's still quite a bit of compatibility concerns.

Point1: this is why Xbox sales are down
Point2: MS is looking into streaming games into the future, so there may not be another nex-gen console.
Point 3: stronger game with more players is unproven. - show me the facts!@angry-popeye69 said in Separating Xbox and PC:
@sanni there are aim speed differences.
If the Xbox crowd would come up with viable solutions instead of trying to split the game in two maybe some of your problems would have been fixed by now?
Problem: On Xbox you can't aim as fast as on PC.
Xbox Player: Turn off crossplay!
Actual solution: Add slider in menu so user can increase the aim speed as much as they like.Problem: Xbox has slow loading times so respawns take longer.
Xbox Player: Turn off crossplay!
Actual solution: Buy external USB3.0 SSD drive for Xbox.Problem: 1% of the PC players are using cheats.
Xbox Player: Turn off crossplay!
Actual solution: Ban that 1% from Xbox Live.Problem: PC players have 60fps.
Xbox Player: Turn off crossplay!
Actual solution: Ask Rare to implement dynamic resolution scaling so you can have 60fps on Xbox One X too.Problem: PC players can type in chat.
Xbox Player: Turn off crossplay!
Actual solution: Ask Rare to add Xbox Chat Pad support.Problem: PC players can jump and aim at the same time.
Xbox Player: Turn off crossplay!
Actual solution: Remap your jump key from A to a bumper key.Did I miss something?

A lot of folks wait until they see if they hit before firing. Unless you are talking literally machine gun style (Which I have never seen), shooting canons fast is just knowing when to fire
@rico-redstar
the "Hackers" that uses cheat programs are also playing VS pc, not just console.
we are also victims of cheaters, we dont stand by their side high fiving the cheater yelling "go pc" if i ever meet a cheater he will be trying to kill me and steal my loot, he wont be friendly towards me.. if hes on my team, he will be recoarded and reportet, cheats are ruining my game also.
you write as if its console vs cheater pc's, its not..
its cheaters vs ALL OF US.its ALL OF US vs cheaters, and it would sure help alot if you stood by OUR side against the bad people who want to ruin OUR game.
NO ONE want cheaters in their game.Just curious, is there a mandate somewhere that I miseed that states that the topic of turning off crossplay must have a minimum of 4 or 5 new threads created every single day?
This whole loud minority thing is starting to get really old. And a huge majority of the time I'm willing to bet that it's just really good players being accused of cheating opposed to actual cheaters. It's not as rampant as you think. Hell, even I've been accused of cheating because I'm a good aim with the cannon and know how to fire my gun then quickly switch to my sword and swipe it instead of waiting around for my gun to reload. I'm not cheating, I'm just using in game mechanics well. You can to, even if you have a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse. It's not the fact I'm on PC that matters.
In all my time in this game I've come across only one person who was very clearly using an aimbot. One. And, even then, they were terrible at actually using it to their advantage. They hit me, I ran directly at them while eating a banana and they reloaded. The moment I was done eating pull out the gun, shoot, immediately pull out my sword, and swiped them dead. All the while they did get one more shot off on me, but thanks to the magic banana I didn't die! So, I'm not saying cheaters don't exist in this game. But it's not nearly as rampant as it may seem because most people are really terrible at actually identifying cheaters.
@toffiend I play on PC using an Xbox controller WITH my son on his Xbox, my other son on his Xbox and my friend on his PC while his son play on XBox too, one of the few games we can play together. We all love it, so don't get rid of cross platform :-)
I had to slightly modify it for my own scenario ;)
@rattlybat795 twice as many? false. if we are talking over the entire spectrum of pc sales vs console sale - PC gaming accounts for 28% of total game market and all consoles account for 29%.
