Save voyages on logout

    I would love to be able to logout when I am in the middle of a voyage, and be able to continue that voyage when I log back in later. Sometimes I may only have 30 minutes or less to play, and I'd like to be able to accomplish at least something in that time (part of the voyage) and then continue the rest of the voyage when I log back in later. This would especially help with the extended time commitment required for Legend voyages.

    I understand that there would need to be some tight restrictions around this, but it seems feasible.

    • Chests and other items would not be saved (same as it is now)
    • In order for a voyage to be saved, the ship must be 'docked' at an outpost (same as the requirement for ship customization now)
    • The voyage would only be saved to the last crew member to logout to prevent the duplication of voyages.
    • Saved voyages would only be loaded if the crew doesn't already have a voyage active

    If you scuttle, sink, quit, disconnect, or join a new server any active voyage will be removed.

    If you could keep voyages between server hopping players would quit before their ship sinks.
    Quit if another player gets close enough to fight to avoid PvP battles and keep the voyage.

    @ghostwolfviking That's why I said it should only save if you are docked at an Outpost.

    That would be alot of data to store for ever player on every server.
    From what I see they are still struggling to get all achievements to unlock for everyone.
    It's a top priority about as much as giving the kraken a body underwater.
    It would be nice though . 😄

    @ghostwolfviking It's really not that much data. At most we've seen voyages with 8 "maps" or parts. The data for each of those parts is tiny. Data storage is a trivial concern here.

    As a working husband and father, I often have only 45 minutes to an hour of play time, every couple of days. Without the ability to save voyages to continue with later, I find I'm really limited in my game progression. Sure, you might be able to complete a few treasure maps in succession (without selling your chests) in that kind of time. But when you go to cash in, and you get tailed by some pirates in a galleon for half an hour, seemingly desperate to sink your ship and collect your two almost worthless seafarer's chests, the fun quickly turns into frustration.

    @thedeathkwondo I feel your pain. Pretty much in the same boat. It royally blows when I put in an hour or so of effort, hauling my Castaway and three seafarers back to an outpost, lose them all to a galleon murder crew, the kraken or a disconnect. Its like great, wish i could have that hour back. We should get our Reputation on the "Voyage Complete" screen and the gold awarded on turn in. At least that way it is not a total waste.

    There ought to be some middle ground here that maintains the risk (and excitement) but allows for continuity over shorter play sessions.

    On my first ever voyage out I found 4 messages in a bottle just from island hopping and was really looking forward to doing the associated quests another time, was pretty miffed when I logged back in the next day to an empty voyage roster... :(

    While I agree, it's for a different reason. I have a massive issue with crashes and crashes ever hour or so. Cause of this I can't effectively play single player or with bug. I would love to be able to log right back in and pick up where I left off.

    @thedeathkwondo I’m in the same boat lol, time played can be short periods often and would love to be able to pick up where I left off, also agree with the messages in bottle issue really annoying when this happens.

    Setting an "Inactive Voyage" would be really useful and I imagine fairly trivial to implement. You could limit it to one stored inactive voyage that simply saves your maps, and can be reactivated when you're not already on a voyage.
