So yeah as you can see in the titel.. i hate the mermaid. and i think most ppl do. i mean here i am soloing or with a crew and i wanna board a ship maby a gallion. and the damn mermaid is around there and stopping them to get off the ship they go looking for a dumb idiot like me who try to be steath and stealing the loot. but no no they always find me even if im hanging from the side. i wish this could be fix that you wont have auto mermaid or just take them away. i mean it would be more fun if you can board a ship more steath. idk mby its just me. but why have the mermaid giving it away so much. thats just boring in my mind. "btw sorry for my typing. im dyslextic" anyway what do anyone of you think should the mermaid still be like they are or should it be fixed.

This is my only complaint about Sea of Thieves. I was trying to hide in the water near a fort with the stronghold key after my boat was sank. My crew were racing back but the other ship just sailed right around the island and stopped on my mermaid, saw me, killed me, took the key and all the stronghold loot...
Mermaids should only appear when you summon then, maybe play a certain song to summon them. Then we can hide and stealth when we want to.
I agree. There should be an option to call for the mermaid, like blowing a conch shell or something. Having it automatically pop up ruins a lot of stealth tactics. To prevent overuse, maybe have a cost assigned to it, like 100gold or something. Definitely room to tweak some things with that mechanic.

Do this AND hide the gamertag and the game becomes so much more dynamic and interesting. Pirates should be WAAAAY sneakier.It's a strange mechanic which sort of benefits some situations and hinders others. For example its good for warning passive players (mainly solo) about potential outpost campers, but also hinders many attempts at stealthy strategies in a combat scenario like you say.
I feel its purpose is neither of these things.
The game should really supply other things that give the same benefit and leave the merpeople to its purpose of allowing the player to return to ship.
In the case above perhaps only your own mermaids are visible to you. And some other mechanic can be deployed to outposts to give subtle indicators to the keen eye of a potential ambush.
Like the appearance of scavaging birds - im not sure.
Personally i dont need it, but i know without it a lot of people would fall victim without some subtle warning.

That's an epic idea, also they should do something about player nametags
@donklol Wow that Idea was freaking great, I really like the idea that you have to pay some money to be able to use the mermaid, I vote for this
