In using the search feature, I have found several threads about the topic of safe zones (Specifically related to social areas) over the last few months, most of which would require necro or have been locked. So decided to make a new one for a request.
@Deckhands @Global-Moderators I know we HAD a safe zone megathread that was locked with this response:
"Safe Zones are not currently something we are exploring for Sea of Thieves, you can read our public comment about it in this PC Gamer interview with our Design Director Mike Chapman."
Can we start a new mega thread specifically in regard to "Social area" instead of the term "safe zone"? within the main mega-thread?
Reason for megathread:
Switch the nomenclature to "social area" instead of "safe zone" and establish the premise before posting that this is external to the existing gameplay mechanics. i.e - no turning in loot, pvp, or experience gain etc.. etc...
- This will lead to more productive discussion instead of people instantly responding to the "safe zone" as a PVE feature and will help keep on topic.
- we can start to surmise if this is a feature that the community wants and would benefit the game.
- player input can help shape and develop the scope of the idea, if it is something Rare chooses to add in the future
Purpose:
We want to maintain Rare's vision for the game, but understand that people in general are shoot first and thus the social aspect of the game has no "real" place or area to seek.
Inital "frame" suggestions:
I especially like the idea floating around in regards to this being a "pre-game" lobby: Everyone spawns here initially and then you embark onto your "Sea of Thieves" adventure from this "port/island/area"
Anyways should this discussion be approved or a mega-thread started, I will post my thoughts and summarize what could make a social area a great addition to this game later......
P.S.
Personal story on why I posted this:
Last night none of my homies could sail with me, and since I Didn't feel like rolling solo or grinding some quests I just wanted to socialize and meet randoms/play music/do fun stuff. Anyways in order to even begin socializing you have to sail in a direction for 5-10 minutes using a spyglass to find someone, Then upon finding I try to catch them (being as non aggressive as possible) When approaching I always point towards them, raise my sails, and then drop anchor when fairly close. then I would spam my lantern and play my accordion on the bow on my ship while jumping up and down. EVERY SINGLE TIME (4 seperate ships, 2 server instances) over the course of several hours, refused to socialize. even after they would circle me and see i wasn't attacking and just wanted to chat, they would proceed to sink me and then hunt me down shooting me while i just tried to play music. (2 of the ships had just left an outpost so i know they had no treasure).
Anyways, no fault really on them, They can play the game how they want. It just seems to show my that most players are kill first. so it would be cool if there was somehow a way to meet randoms and have some fun in Addition to the (sparse) random occurrences while on the seas.
that is all, thanks for reading. (not sure how to TL:DR this, sorry)
