I propose some implementations of Magic Summoning Relics found on the Map (Very Rare) and a Thieves "Capital" and a bunch of other stuff.
SUMMONING RELICS
Different Summoning Relics could be:
1. Golden Swordfish Bill (with inscriptions)

Can be thrown as a Spear at enemy ship for activation and targeting.

Once activated, summons a school of Swordfish which attacks enemy ship for an amount of time.
2. Emerald Shark Tooth

Summons Sharks in the vicinity of any nearby enemy ships for a certain amount of time.
-
Attacks enemies in the vicinity, shrouds caster and crew with an aura making them Immune at the time.
3. Silver Dolphin Statue

Once activated, makes high pitched dolphin calling.

Summons group of Dolphins for transporting character in emergency situations (unsure to where yet).
4. Kraken's Conch (Extremely Rare)
- Summons Kraken (need i say more?)
(a little bit unsure about this one though)
Once activated, the relics vanish.
There could also be an option of selling the Relics for big gold rewards instead of activating them.
THIEVES MAIN CAPITAL:
I also suggest adding a main "capital" in the map. As a big "city" with wandering NPC's and different bars with table-games and so on. A "Thieves Paradise".
Maybe daily quest vendor and some sort of "Special Item Shop".
HANDHELD "CANNONBALL NADES"
I really hope they will implement the classic "Cannonball with a fuse" as an extra addition to the existing weapons.
Of course the blast radius would be way smaller than the Gunpowder barrel, but would be fun if players crashing ships together could sneak an unexpected lit bomb on the deck..
GRAPPLING HOOKS
- Ropes, swingable with a hook in the other end.
Would be lots of fun if you could use a type of "Grappling Hook" to climb up onto ridges above.
Or throw the hook onto an enemy ship.
Also, if you were to latch the hook onto an enemy ship and drift in the water behind the boat hanging onto the rope.
The enemy players onboard would have the ability to either cut the rope or just dislodge it.
MAELSTROMS
- Ocurrs just as random as The Kraken (would be cool if the spawn in the middle of two or more ships battling)
- If one of the ships gets swallowed by the maelstrom, it dissapates.
WORLD MONSTERS
- Megalodon
- Giant Seaworm (The Midgard Serpent)?
- Sirens (Tries to pull the ships toward rocks with "visible sound" acting as magnets in the game)
- Giant Ancient Sea-Turtle (Friendly Reward-giving purpose)?
- Whales? (Moby D**k perhaps)
EXTRA NPCS
An addition of interactive NPCs placed around on different islands would also create an extra feeling of "randomness" and exploring.
They could be everything from Ghosts to Talking chickens giving rare Voyages for example.
Or giving random rewards for finding them there and then.
