Aggressive PVP mentality is ruining this game

  • Anyone else annoyed with griefers roaming the seas with their PvP mentality? All week I've played for hours every night.... Adhering to the pirate code while griefers do what they can to sink you at every opportunity to steal loot you've worked on for the past 2 hours to get.... Yes it must be fun folliwing people around to steal their loot on the way to the outposts..... Beautiful game but it's people with [mod edited] PvP mentality ruin it for others!!!!

  • @juno-dawae No I don't have any problems with the PvP players. I am a better PvPer than most of the people who try to attack me. If people didn't try to PvP or steal my loot this game would be pathetic and boring to me. To me there is nothing more satisfying than when I am on a single player sloop or a 2 person sloop, and someone tries to steal our stuff, but we kill them sink them, and take anythign they might have had.

  • The game would be ten times more redundant without pvp.

  • @Juno-Dawae They are NOT griefers.

  • @dillly-pickle I'm all for there being a PvP element to the game..... But when PvP becomes griefing it just ruins it for everyone

  • First I want to say that this game is a PvPvE game, this means that its you vs the workd and vs the players, it’s been advertised and sold like that.

So as a PIRATE GAME the main core is to steal all from enemy players and so on, so I can,t understand whts your issue. If someones comes to attack you you can do 2 things, attack back or scape.

  • The PvP itself is fine once you know what you're doing. I agree people play a bit too much like it is Quake on water, but I'm fine with it, and showing an attacker that you won't go down without a fight can be really enjoyable.

I usually play with a friend on a two player sloop, and by now we're getting quite good at repealing attackers. We won't attack anyone around us without a good reason, but if a ship fires so much as a single bullet at us, we will do everything we can to sink it. Also, we always make sure we have at least 2/3 gunpowder barrels at our disposal, those has been proven really helpful to repeal/sink a ship.

  • The problem with PvP in its current form is that it is a Zero-Sum-Game. There is no reward for actually winning against another Pirate other than taking his loot. Nobody gains anything out of PvP you only gain something out of PvE and PvP only steals one mans gains from PvE.

It needs to be changed into a positive-Sum-Game, then it would make fun. Gaining anything for actually sinking the Enemy Ship. But there are already many suggestions in this forum maybe support these or make a new one.

  • @funkefall29709 Of course there is you have the satisfaction of a job well done.

  • You think PVP is bad now just add rewards for sinking other ships and it will be non stop. Talk about griefing.

  • If there wasn't PvP, it would essentially boil the game down to solely "go there and bring x here". Whoo, fun.

The PvP is the most consistently fun element of the game, and that's from somebody who isn't good at, avoids and has 'lost' over 50% of PvP encounters I've been in.

  • @king-homer-1 Well yes but that could be said about every activity. If you only need the Satisfaction of a job done then i would recommend clicker games.

  • @jojodepirate I get your point but some times you cant do [mod edited] about that. Like 5 min ago i played an just wanted to some merchent missions. Got spwan killed for like 6 min. The stole all my tresure (okay, happens) but the just killed my pigs and sunk my shipp... i couldnt do [mod edited] about it, because they were 4 guys and i quit the game because of it. It sucks if that happens, so i would like a passiv mode. You cant see and kill other players, they cant see and kill you. That would be a fair solution .

  • I don't mind the PVP as it keeps you alert and adds an element of "beware of all" to the game. What I do find annoying is the killing and sinking just for the fun of it when they're not even interested in the treasures onboard my ship. It also somewhat ruins the social side of the game and meeting people in game because everyone is afraid you will attack and kill on sight. I only ever fire in defence when I'm fired upon first.

  • It's not that all PVP is bad it's just the few bad actors who take PVPing into griefing that is bad. Sadly though the game wasn't designed with any way to put any kind of check on bad actors and toxic players. The PVP is pretty clunky and poorly designed as well which doesn't help. If there were at least an option for the people who aren't interested in the PVP parts it would alleviate a lot of the frustration. It would also help a ton if there was more than just three virtually identical quests to choose from. Hopefully the first major update in a few months will help that but we'll see. This game needs more casual gamers to stay afloat and really right now isn't set up that way. They'll sink their own boat if they can't figure something out in a couple of months, but it's not a good sign that so many people are getting so burnt out on the game after only a couple of weeks.

  • So you want a "safe" pirate game?

  • @juno-dawae this is sad

  • @alphamattisimo for my own experience I can say that the solo sloop is for advanced players, because you need to be a experienced player to go solo, knowing how to scape and when to attack.
This game is more coop type game so try going on galeons instad. I know its not a great suggestio, but its the best way to play even if its a 2 player sloop.

  • @onigirizangief my favorite part (sarcasm) of the game is where galleons chase every sloop they see. its more like a game of feeling powerful rather than actually having fun.

  • @jojodepirate i played it enough to do solo sailing. I played it like 15h in solo sailing in the past 3 days.
The time i got raided like that was a time a wasnt even on my shipp because i went to get the last pig.
Am the type of guy who loves playing with friends but dont enjoy it as much with randoms, so i go to solo sailing.
So if you have a passive mode no one would get harmed and everybodey has as much fun with the game as he possible get.

  • @alphamattisimo its understandable, but it wouldnt be fairmto people go in a passive mode while people fight to become a legend, it’s not that kind of game I guess.
Apart of that in my opinion it would complicate somethings, as segregating the community in 2 groups.

  • @jojodepirate i get your point. But the game should make everybodey happy and not just the guys with the bigger crew or better skills at pvp. Mybe you can make a compromise. So like: when you in passiv mode you need more time to lvl up.
I mean yeah its a PvPvE game, but the PvP shouldnt reduce the fun for the players.

  • Kind of funny complaining about pirates acting like...pirates.
Unless they are spawn camping you, they are not griefing. They are simply playing the game.

Anyway, while it sucks being chased or losing your hard earned loot, without pvp you would take away all the risk and tension out of the game.

  • The game already splits it into 2 groups, those that play to just fight anything and everyone, and those who want to play the game and complete quests. One has a direction, the other just wants the enjoyment of chaos.

  • @juno-dawae I totally get it. I may be able to help you though... Whenever this happens to you and you are being griefed by another player/crew find out their gamertags and block them under:friends-recent players-block. This will cause matchmaking to avoid matching you with those players in the future. Eventually you will be matched with better groups of players... I truly hope this method helps you, it's how I avoid playing with screaming kids(my personal kryptonite).

  • @blindnev yeah youre absolutly right.
It is a pirate game, but even pirates had a godex of honor. And i think its okay to take all tresures etc even when its really frustration and so on.
But its so annoying to get spawn killed or if they just randomly kill your animals because some reasons. I mean, youre a pirate....taking tresures....okay. But just kill the animals so the other guy dont has anything anymore. Thats [mod edited]. A bit honor is not hurting.

  • @lord-sphinktus Hey thanks for the info. thats really great! :)

  • @lord-sphinktus thanks for that. Good tip. I'm not against the she PvP concept it's just when PvP turns into malicious griefing.... It ruins it for a lot of people.... I'll try that though next time 👍

  • @juno-dawae said in PVP is the cancer of this game:

Sounds like you're adhering to the victim code. This is a game about pirates.

  • @vin-delanos it is unnecessary to be insulting.

  • @vin-delanos being pirates..... Fun..... Being asshats..... not as much

some of the replies/threads on the forums have helped me proactively bolster my blocked list :D

"I'm a Pirate, I'll chase/spawn kill you for hours..." copy GT, paste.. blocked....no you wont :D

  • @lord-sphinktus said in PVP is the [mod edited] of this game:

@vin-delanos it is unnecessary to be insulting.

But OP clearly is complaining about pirates stealing his/her stuff. I'm merely pointing out that he/she is playing a game about pirates, as a pirate, on seas that are full of nothing but pirates.

One would think that most folks would expect to be robbed from time to time under those circumstances.

  • @hiyall1 I feel you, galleons are really scary when they go all out against sloop.

You have to outsmart them, it's hard to fight back but it's easy to lose them if you're on a sloop. Learning anchor U-turn and hiding behind rocks and islands is essential there. They will have the hardest of times to quickly turn around to get you and this is your chance to run away.
If all else fails, just go into the storm if it's nearby, it will make it much harder for them to chase you.
