Why do players feel the need to BM

  • I have came across this pretty much every single time I take on another crew.

You engage them, kill them , they tell ya to [Mod edited]

You get killed, they tell you to go [Mod edited]

I dont think I have seen this in any other game to the extent it exists here (not even in league or csgo). Has anyone else ran into this issue?

  • @skyewauker yep I honestly think its the console players I mean I run into this now and then with PC but not as much as in SoT. Also I tend to run into a TON of P******s

  • @fantome2024 Yea. Its out of hand. Its not even reportable as they use voice. Me and this other sloop attacked a galleon at a fort. I did a drive-by, shot up the galleon, got shot up, boarded their ship and killed them while they tried to repair.

I got called every name under the sun, including most racial / bigot terms. It was unreal.

  • @fantome2024 LOL. "the console players"

    its online gaming in general.

i play PC and console and its always the same any game i play.

same amount of awefulness and the same amount of good people as well.

  • When you set up a voice chat that lets anyone and everyone have the ability to speak means you're going to find the worst of the worst.

  • @skyewauker haha yep was had a galleon track us down 3 times last night and killed them every time and "we sucked" and "were trash" etc etc *** and so forth

  • I think this is the reason...

  • @fantome2024 I wish they would let us shame post. I keep track of the players that do it too. I have actually disabled voice now just so I dont have to hear it.

  • @Skyewauker Please avoid swearing in your posts, as it is a violation of the Forum rules.

If you are a victim of toxic behavior that violates our rules of conduct, please report the player so that appropriate action can be taken.

  • @lady-aijou Sorry about that. Will watch it in the future!

    Reporting is worthless.

You don't record every voice transmission in game. It would achieve nothing.

  • @raging-spork I disagree. I can see some games being overall toxic communities, however, I play on both PC and Console as well. I truly feel that console players are more toxic than PC players by far.

While I don't have any data to back that claim up, I have tens of thousands of hours probably playing pc and quite a few thousand or more playing on console and I just feel as though console players feel as though they have to come off being tough since they can not be keyboard warriors.

PC has some very toxic people too, just look at some steam player profiles, but this seems to come from the Console world as many of them post -/+ Rep. That was never a PC thing, that was primarily a console thing.

  • Hehehe.. I Do love it when I try to evade a fight trying a peacefull escape and they start shooting at me (ofcourse im not so peacefull anymore now) so i engage the battle and the last words i hear from them when i blunderbuss them of my ladder is: You A**Hole ....

    Priceless...

  • You would think there would be less BM due to all the 🍌 people eat in this game

  • @xklix Oh I can stand that. Someone calling me little things in jest is fine. But when they toss out everything under the kitchen sink like h*******t comments, it gets to be a b***h much and its pretty much every single fight I have against a galleon crew.

  • @nightmare247365 I dont have data either. really just my experiance.

    and your experiance as well.

its just anecdotal for now. my experiance has been just as bad on PC. especially when everyone can type. ive never seen as much horrible racist, vulger, and hateful talk, as I have seen on PC games.

  • @nightmare247365 It all depends on which game you play, honestly. Competitive shooters/RTS/MOBA will bring out the absolute worst in most players, simply because of the competitiveness. LoL, Smite, Dota, Starcraft, Halo, RS6:S, GoW are all games that come to mind on both console and PC that have notoriously toxic communities. It's not one or the other, it's both.

  • @skyewauker

Open world chat....... most games laugh at the idea of it for the reasons you've mentioned.

edit...... I just figured out BM is Bad Mouth........ I was thinking something else..... which seemed to fit with your writing as well.

I dont defend their language, my point was just showing how missplaced the comment may be ;) They attack me.. and I'm the A**Hole?! Thats priceless ;) I like some random fun comments during the fights, but yeah.. its to much gameruining b******t people manage to throw out of their mouths :P

  • @stem589 Many BM = Bad Manners in general. It could be Teabagging a player. Spawn Camping and killing them. Or racist vulgar language.

BM is pretty common to all communities in one form or another.

  • @nightmare247365

I read BM as the medical abbreviation.......... and I'm not sure that's going to change anytime soon.... but good to know.

Misinterpreting between the two can make for a very different understanding of the conversation.

    ;)

  • I drop a BM three times a day at least. Not sure what it has to do with the game but if you are asking then... Yeah and some times my IBS kicks in and you can bump those numbers way up.

  • Yarr we be pirates! Ye steal my booty and ya'll hear a ear full of sailors mouth fer sure ya scallywag

  • Hence the need of a reputation system for players to vote according to each pirate behavior, should also slower xp progression for players having the most terrible reputations : griefers, afkers, and so on.

  • My god, the words, they burn. So much pain!

  • It surely isn't necessarily the case but I've been with a few people, including one of my main crewmates, using BM as a distraction in PvP games.
No namecalling, @sshole or mom insults, but mainly in the form of taunts, sometimes mean, sometimes telling people to delete the game, they suck and the like. When he does it, he is actually calm and focused, not raging, but for him the incessant barrage of taunts is meant to p*ss off the opponents, reducing their concentration, aiming and logical reasoning. I hate when he does that as I try to stay as cordial as possible when I play, but I'm sad to observe that it actually works. After a while I can spot rash decision making, little mistakes and an overall lower level of play. He says that "in a PvP game every tactic is fair game, including psychological warfare". I don't agree it's fair, but it's effective and I'm pretty sure he's not the only one usimg BM for this in the gaming world.

I've told off a few crews during my time on the seas.

But I always keep it lighthearted until they are back for their 5th time after losing the first 4. Then I start to get annoyed and have been known to let an F Bomb fly.

  • @chud-stuffens nah thats fine.

there are just people online who just want to verbally bully people.

  • I play overwatch, and no this isn't anything unique. In the long run though, the game will definitely need some better tools for muting and reporting toxic behaviors.

  • @skyewauker Hate to tell you my man but it's not just this game. A good life lesson that is best learned sooner rather than later is as follows: people are ****oles. In fact, people are becoming more selfish and entitled than they've ever been. Anything with PvP that I've played anytime recently is full of the same morons and there isn't **** anybody can do about it.

I've met plenty of pessimists that didn't know why they were crying or what about. They just liked to cry.

  • I actually don't mind the occasional low life s**m that talks s**t continuously. All the more fun for me to break them even further.

  • No se que traen y ni de que son estos foros, pero "Están Bien ********" LA NETA MI PA.

They also need an excuse to be edgy and rude to everyone. because you know... The world is a dark place and people are getting worse and worse... and I've read Watchmen at least five times.

Such an edgy post. Pot and Kettle mate. Also people aren't getting worse. They just get upset easier.
