Mermaids should not appear if you sink somebodies ship as they are mid spawn. This is unfair and has resulted in a lot of loot being lost because they can just sneak back and kill you unless you camp the mermaid.
Also mermaids should be an option to be requested rather than just appear in the middle of the sea. For example if you are trying to sneak up on somebodies ship a mermaid will just pop up and a big blue flare shows your position..

Other players only see the mermaid, not the giant flare. But yes, they do give away your position, they are super easy to spot for miles, while a player model spawn in at like 10 meters....go figure.

Only the players whose mermaid it is csn see the flare
