Legendary ship Upgrades! The precious abilities for the proudest pirates!

  • Legendary ships.
A prize sought out by the most determined. Fear has spread if this ship of iron grip is truly trustworthy. I have some ideas for that...

If I recall correctly, in Athena's fortune, your ship is parked and awaiting customization. I suggest using these as a new and special upgrade (One installed at a time) in the ship customization menu.

Battering Ram- I heard of the patch that included the drop of holes that a ship does with a ram. This would be prime to add a ram for maximum effect. The ship with the ram would not take damage while the target ship would take as much damage as a gunpowder barrel. BIG CRASH!

Side Armor- I recall from AC4, there's a ship called "La Dama N***a" Whose broadsides are impenetrable to cannon fire. I want that. The armor on the sides will protect against cannons, but the bow, bottom, and stern are just as vulnerable as any ship. A gunpowder barrel will damage the armored hull, however.

More Sails- An even larger (taller or wider) Sail radius make due for a quicker ship. watch her cut through the waves like an arrow! HIGH WAVES, AWEIGH!

Explosive barrel mines-Load up those gunpowder barrels at the stern, and kiss the problem of chasing ships goodbye! When triggered, this beaut releases four gunpowder barrels rigged to blow from behind. Your ship starts out with five rounds, and every gunpowder stored counts as a new round.

Front and back cannons- guess what isn't a problem anymore? That's right. Your bow and stern are armed and ready to fire!

Kamakazie (Self destruct)- Out of options? Make your foes pants turn brown as you charge with your vessel engulfed in flames into them, exploding with a blast that Neptune himself can feel! When activated, for about three minutes, the ship will be easy to control and speed up and slow down. It will include a cool down if there is no luck in hitting a target. If it makes impact, the cargo on the ship self destructs as both ships sink.

Reinforcements- Add two sloops to your ship's posse as guards or allies to help grab treasures. The brigs will be voted by a widespread of the crew.

The Ghostly ship- Make your ship and your crew turn into a ghost with a haunting mist and green glow! All cannons and damage (aside from island collision) will be futile! This will last for a while, but is temporary.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN- Used once, and with a VERY long cooldown, the Kraken will stop it's course, and race towards your ship looking for any other ship to sink while you continue on your merry way.

Harpoons on all sides- Tow foes to their doom with this hefty tool. It latches onto enemy ships, and you reel in to the target! If the enemy vessel drowns, the cables auto disconnect.
Super Rudder- Make ungodly turns at such rates with a better rudder. it turns quicker than a galleon with it's sails down!

Ship Security- Add loyal skeletons to help guard your ship. They will be the regular kind, but will have a verity of weapons. They will also have the same color bands as your sails! they will man cannons, patch holes, and play shanties! Although they won't touch the sails, anchor, or wheel.

Smart anchor and smart wheel- Only crewmates and yourself can use the anchor and wheel. Any intruder can't do a thing to sabotage your chase.

Possessed ship- Helmsman can raise sails, lower anchor, and raise both from the wheel!

Water pumps- No time to bail water? No problem! Temporarily save your hide by pumping out any breach water leaking into your ship. One person uses, and as long as the button is mashed, the ship will pump out water.

  • I feel like these ideas are in conflict with their game agenda to not separate players based on progression. Also some ideas sound like their taking out a lot of coordination and making things easier. Fun ideas though!

  • @il-yusuke-li I can see that. :) If I recall from the Crow's nest however, there's usually only one legendary ship in a server. I believe that these will give true satisfaction for reaching pirate legend. That way there would be no spam upgrades, but one to awe the rest! These are all just ideas I Brainstormed. I really like the Skeleton Security one! Maybe not everything I described, but maybe some of these would make a great reward for pirate legends! Any ideas that catch your eye?

  • While these do sound like awesome ideas and I would be totally down for them, this also goes against the balance the devs are trying to achieve. I would love for the option to further customize our ships but for now it will only be cosmetic.

I do wish we could at least get a new ship entirely for legendary pirates instead of the Galleon. It can have the same stats for all I care but it would stand out a lot more.

Maybe you are right. Is it really worth having one ship have an edge over another? To this, I'd say yes. After all, why are Galleons and sloops in the same server? I'd think these ideas indeed strike controversy, but that's a risk I'm gonna take to get my word out there. OH! what if, there was a third ship option called legendary ship that is a galleon that can be outfitted with these goodies? It would only appear for the legend player's main menu, and anyone lucky enough to spawn with him will get to experience the awesomeness too? That would solve some of the problems.

  • @nyanbonecrush yeah bro it would feel so rewarding to literally render the skill you've accumulated over the hours of gameplay to reach pirate legend useless in favor of upgrades that give me an unfair advantage :)

  • Nice ideas. There are other pirate games in early access on steam that kind of does this. So I suggest it could be interesting for those type of players, to try out this other game. I think it is an advantage that every player starts out with the same content. So if they were to add these things, everyone should be allowed to customize their ship to their playstyle from day 1. Making it more of a "design your ship" gameplay element. One that I don't favour. I kind of like that it is already been done, and we can pick what is done. So I suppose, they could add different ships by making these things for us, and letting us choose one over the other, pros and cons. Nice ideas.

I guess you're correct... if your definition of skill is flaming any post on this forum you come across, then I definitely wouldn't want you to have any upgrades.

  • @karmpsych Looks like Sea of Thieves may have some competition coming soon.

  • @nyanbonecrush I certainly think they are two different games. And I personally prefer Sea of Thieves for different reasons, as this other game simply do not offer those experience. I am sure people would enjoy both for different reasons. But my impression is that a lot of player want the same game design but just with boats. So I advocate that Sea of Thieves can be great, if they just figure out how to do things better without sacrificing what makes it different. If it becomes similar I would not play Sea of Thieves. I might write a post to what Sea of Thieves did right, to make those parts clear. But I also understand its underlying issues and weaknesses that I agree needs to be fixed. I just don't think it should be more choices, upgrades and such based on player level. If it would be added, I still think everyone should get it. And I prefer for this particular game, that Rare designs those "classes" and lets people pick accordingly.

so apparently leaving some sly passive aggressive comment is now equivalent to 'flaming', and although I don't see how it's relevant to the idea of implementing ship upgrades into sea of thieves, I only 'flame' posts that deserve it.

    bad idea sorry :)

in all seriousness buddy, you've got some good ideas here, it just goes against the 'player equality' that rare is trying to establish
