In a world without pvp....

  • TL/DR: The griefing issue would be worse without pvp. You want to play an 'rpg' with cosmetics as the end game without pvp? go play destiny.

Having played many games throughout the years I have played games that have given the option for non-pvp servers. Here's the 'shocker'... Griefing. Still. Happens. In fact, many times it is worse. Let me introduce you to Sea of Thieves non-pvp:

    • people still camp outpost to turn in your hard earned loot while you can do nothing to stop them
    • people will gladly stop by an island that you are stopped at in hopes of stealing your loot while, you guessed it, you can do nothing about it
    • And, here is the kicker about this, if you get a griefer on your hands following you around the seas, literally the only two things you can do about it is scuttle and hope they don't find you again or quit the game and rejoin and hope its a different server.

The dynamic of the game becomes worse in a pve only sort of world. It just doesn't work. The fact that in SoT they don't give rewards for killing other players or sinking other ships is a testament to the fact that the dynamics of the game were thought through. The reward for pvp is fun and a little bit of potential. You might find that one person that has a lot of loot for grabs in several hours of game play, but for the most part, the progression is slower.

The best advice that I can give besides a blanket "get good, bro" is keep your head on a swivel and, for the love of god, stop trying to use a sloop like a galleon in a fight against a galleon; use your maneuverability, make cut backs, circle islands, you CAN survive even a persistent galleon crew by playing smart. Yes it is annoyingly obnoxious and takes 10x longer but at least being ABLE to fight them off is way more beneficial than not.

  • @vizargast Easy.. do what a lot of non pvp games do, dont allow someone not in your group to pick up your loot. Problem solved.

LoL then you have the problem of people following you around and getting the last dig on a treasure or the last kill shot on a skeleton captain or running in on a fort...

    That is fine with me.

  • @vizargast
If there is no pvp ship or weapon damage & only the crew with the map can dig up the treasure, then your arguments are null & void.
Basically what a PVP server is!!

    @AsianThuderFury
Then they get reported & banned from PVE server, whats the issue?

  • @logansdadtoo why would they get reported and banned. They are playing within the game mechanic that you requested.

  • If they made a "Pure PvE" server:

    • Voyage loot would only be interact-able by the crew with the voyage, irregardless of anything else.
    • Random loot from the map (shipwrecks and random chest/skele spawns) would become crew bound once on a ship.
On both counts it would be physically impossible to steal someone elses loot.

That's not to say they should actually make "Pure PvE" servers, but it's what would happen if they did.

And who gets the fort loot...

And honestly that sounds like the most boring game ever.

Also if you are on a pve server you shouldn't be allowed on a PVP server.

  • You wanna play a PvP deathmatch game? Go play Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Rainbow Six, Gears of War, PUBG, Fortnite, etc.

This is what I don't understand, why in the world do you care how boring a PvE-only server would be? You obviously have no interest in playing this game in such a way, so why do you hate the idea of other players wanting to play it that way? It affects your ability to play this game in no way.

Some people want a boring game, so where's the harm in that to you? :)

And that's awesome, some people have no interest in playing on a PvP server, so this works out.
