Server shutdown

  • What can we do when a server says it is shutting down in ten minutes ?

I just spent almost two hours on a skull raid, fought off three sloop attempts and a galleon
Then got the ten minute warning around the four minute warning I defeated the general...

Tried to just grab stronghold gear that’s it on ship and sailed just as spire outpost in sight screen faded black.

How can we be charged to play a game for them to shut servers on us without warning when playing. ?

What can we do when this happens ?

Surely people have had this and feel the same and feel the frustration from wasting two hours on a game you enjoy to just loose everything you worked for.

  • @royal-gear1 You can barely get to an outpost in that time. Rare y'all need to do an hour, 30 mins, 15, 10, and 5.

  • @solemagician506 yeah man was very disappointing to get that far and get the loot after fighting off players and the fort and then to have it shut down and loose my loot 😔😒. Hope they are fair enough to compensate but highly doubt they will.

  • @royal-gear1 dude it's an online MP game. This problem isn't unique to SoT. If anything, Rare needs to give a larger heads up. But don't act like the worlds over dude, it's just a game.... chillaxxxxx

  • @solemagician506 they already do......

both times ive been on during a shut down i got a 30 min warning. you guys just arent pating attention.

  • @xx-roobydoo-xx I e never known a game I have paid for to just close down a match whilst I’m playing.

Also it’s not just a ten minute match , I spent two hours on the game for the server to close.

If I pay for a game then spend time on it to complete objectives and put that time and efffort in then I should and do deserve to reap the rewards not have a server shut down and loose what I’ve worked for.

    Pretty simple I think.

  • I got this too, there is a 30 minute warning, then every 5 minutes after that.

  • @raging-spork possibly missed first warning whilst fighting off other players but small white text in corner whilst your in a storm and an intense fight you can miss things.

Also either way I would of still spent an hour to hour and half on that raid which would of been wasted for the server to close for no reason.

If I was ten minutes into it I wouldn’t be a***d but I was down to the last wave when the announcement popped up.

  • @royal-gear1 Server shutdowns are what they are, what is far worse is battling over a fort or otherwise stealing the key, the rest quit and you get moved to a new server without any warning at all and an empty treasure room...they need to change that c**p asap

  • @ahab-smollett damn I must of missed it , intense fighting does take away your attention haha but still. After an hour or so that would still be s**t.

  • @royal-gear1 ok i can understand that. maybe rare can make it flash across the screen. then it will always be seen.

  • @mandelbaum708 yeah I’m sick of people that do that I get it’s a pirate game and agree with robbing each other but I think it’s such poor form when galleons and teams of sloops gang up on someone who’s spent time playing the game and they just wait to steal and don’t put effort into the actual raid.

That’s why I like the fact you can hide the key as saved you when you get out numbered by thieves who haven’t crafted for an hour haha

But also I don’t know why they shut servers down but to do it and to lose out on a few hours work seems s**t.

  • @raging-spork possibly just in corner like it does but a white box so it is highly recommended with a notification sound.

And if people are doing an active raid then for it to hold the server for the raid to be finished if it’s in the last few waves or something.

As raid is a community event surely they could have it track when that is nearly at its end or something so we have time to get loot back after winning and if you don’t get the loot back 30 minutes or even 20 after ending the raid then unlucky.

  • @royal-gear1 how about in the pocket watch item it lists the time until the next server switch. that would be an easily manageable solution to a small problem. I agree it's passion-snuffing of a game to spend 2 hours collecting a vast assortment of treasures only to race to an outpost with not enough time to cash in all my loot (and when i finally got to the outpost, a 2 man sloop was waiting there. We literally didn't engage each-other. They just helped themselves to half our haul and we got half credit or less for an abundant bounty). I understand why servers exist and why they must change but you have to admit this would be pretty debilitating. And I don't need to hear "Pay better attention" I literally never had this happen before and it's not a fault with my game play. Adding server switch tracking to the pocket watch would be a really useful mechanic for a tool that is virtually useless right now

  • You should make the warning more obvious (like the server migration text or something).

Also, give warnings every 10 minutes from 1 hour and every 5 minutes from half an hour until shutdown.

If someone can't wrap up what they're doing in that time, it's not on you for shutting it down when you said you would. Half an hour could be barely enough time to get back to an outpost, even uncontested.

Server shutdowns are normal in games like these. I agree there should be an hour heads up minimum, but come on, they need to work on things and they need the servers to be offline for that.

Kind of like when a 4 man crew attacks a solo sloop thats docked. There no treasure but they sink your ship and try to kill you anyway just for fun. Not real pirates IMO just plain jerks.

  • u should never spend two hours on a skull raid, isnt worth..the first days after launch i made some skull raids with no ships in sight.now with the new spawnpoints everyone run to the skull raid,so annoying;)

  • @weedstar-deluxe after you spend upto an hour I don’t want to let go as already spent too much time to just get nothing 😅 hah
