Is the player base dying fast

I'm not trying to make the game sound hardcore, the ship requires co-ordination and to succeed you have to be outsmarting others and keep one step ahead, that is key. I'm saying that eventually it will evolve and it is hardcore relative to its look coz you have to be two steps ahead.. How long has the official game been out for?

You expect too much too soon man.

It's too much to expect a finished game with content?

  • @peapaw-z I suppose it would depend on the friend. Someone who is broke I would not suggest this to. Someone who has cash and likes a mellow game that has no consequences to death and you can just laugh your way along I would. I work on an ambulance. Some days that can be pretty stressful. So to have a game this beautiful that has no reason progress in at the end of a day is amazing. I love to get the treasure and try to get it sold. If I don't, ha, who gives a s**t. I don't. I can attack people and they can attack me I can laugh when I keg and get kegged. I can dance, wave, and play music. Someone chases me after a skelly fort I can try to elude them, if I don't they get my worthless loot. I have ship paint, sails, clothes and 1.5k from getting a figurehead. That's not a boast as I don't know where other players are at. But it is to say that this is an easy solo game. It's repetitive right now and I'm ok with that to destress at the end of the night. It has big gaping holes, but I love this game. It's so therapeutic after dropping off a dead baby at a hospital, confirming a suicide, or extracting someone's teen out of a car wreck to come and sail around and laugh my a*s off. My apologies if that is too melodramatic, but it is the reality of it for me. Come steal my loot, sink my ship or be sunk, it's all good stress relief. My biggest beef is knowing that at my skill level I only win against bad-mediocre PC players, I just can't keep up with a mouse and keyboard in my old age. Maybe I'll by a PC just to play this game with more confidence until then I'll take my lumps and laugh my slow a*s way to Pirate Legend. PS Anyone feel free to friend me and hit me up. I think I'm 29/33/21 right now.

Oh, so in answer to your question, I do recommend this broken game all the time.

  • I play every day and the servers are full of ships. So, I would have to say no its not dying.

  • @cmm-solo said in Is the player base dying fast:

Swings and round about's mate, some people are just not pirate enough for this game lol. Some folk can't deal with the fair playing ground without level advantages etc. A lot of people pay to win these days and Sea Of Thieves Does not offer unfair advantage to its players over other players.

They have created a hardcore game that looks like a Disney production on its surface lol. When or if economy and trade hits the game I imagine it will become even more complex and that will thin the herd out until they are left with their loyal fan base. Eventually people will be coming into a game that has evolved into something far more in depth than what we have currently and Rare will need to release a tutorial session to play in game to keep new players interested. That's just how these things go. Ripples to waves.

Not about that at all. Missed the mark completely. There are just better PvP games with way better arenas than this small box of water. And pay to win...I guess I don't see any support that shows people are bummed about not being pay to win. I'm not. I hate pay to win. Has nothing to do with what I think about the game.

  • @weesalty-mug
You have described all of the reasons that I play (and continue to play) the game as well.
I hope that it sticks around for quite some time and that it gains a bit more reliability so that I can feel better recommending it.

  • Not in my experience. There seems to be a very healthy player base. Probably just got into a server with few players, it happens, it's actually nice because you can get stuff done without being messed with. As to player base I just played two sessions last night that where absolutely packed kept running into ships all night.

  • Is it really a game that would bring in a lot of viewers on twitch after the initial hype though? It's more of a slow chillout game. I just can't imagine it being much fun to watch someone run voyages for hours. I can't stop playing it though. I even bought the SE controller and the art book, which is unusual for me. Looking through the art book and seeing some of the ideas that were never implemented is kind of disappointing, but still I'm happy with the game so far.

  • @shinbabo well i guess theres no ai besides skeletons to keep it simple so you dont have 30 different things attacking you on the island if there happens to be some pvp would be my guess. You guys act like people didnt give feedback durring the alphas and evrything .

  • @zsneakydude said in Is the player base dying fast:

I too found out the same thing, i basically shelved the game until they add way more content, fix the alpha bugs, and combat the cheats.

I can only imagine how many others are faced with the same disgust. Cost me 90 bucks and i shelled out another 96 for a USD friend... total shame, shame on me... its not happening ever again though. I am moving back to developed games like MMO's. There is too many ALPHA games out there now with little to no content rinse and repeat options. So boring after all these years in gaming.

This. Sadly i dont think i could even get a refund if i wanted to at this point. Im sure amazon has a policy to not do that after some playtime.

So i do what anyone that just waisted 60 bux on a game that wasnt touted as an early access. I shelf it till i see a roadmap or they add oh.. id say 40 bux more worth of content.

But hey.. all the power to you all living the game, sad to say it will be draining players the more the months go on. There is only so much grind you can do before you cant take it anymore or notice what you are actually doing.

  • How could you possibly tell whether or not the playerbase is dying fast? It's far too soon in the game's lifespan to make any assumptions. If there is no data, this discussion is irrelevant.

  • Wouldn't surprise me. The game is sorely lacking content, there are tons of balance issues and many players want to have a peaceful play option(boring) to top it off the first pirate legend used boosting to get there and Rare just ignored it. All of these things are going to kill the player base. I mean 60$ and all they have to start is two boats and three factions. I hope it doesn't die I love this game but Rare has to start making better decisions, I think the three month mark when the first new content batch get's dropped will make or break it. It may lull until then though but if that is worthwhile it could breathe life into the game.

An observation is worth discussing, data or not data, and that was what the OP was doing.

  • I miss seeing other ships. I camped an outpost for 6 hours yesterday after reading here that its the best way to make gold and I only saw one ship. I did get 2 chests from them though.

Seriously? you camped for 6 hours? l**o!

  • For me, playerbase refers to players who would, without question, support the sale of the game to other gamers. While the amount of players is quite high, I don’t think there are too many players who would recommend buying this game right now. In the alpha, The feedback didn’t seem to be taken too seriously, rather, it felt like a, “check out this free game right now, there’s so much more coming, tell your friends” marketing strategy. That strategy is dead and now, for me, the game feels like being addicted to huffing gasoline or paint. Low highs and low lows.

The way people on the forums talk about it I expected ships to come crashing into the dock every couple minutes leaving me loads of loot

  • @supremewizard72 not sure juding by the amount of sloops and galleons after our skullfort treasure earlier. That was a pain in the a*s. Has 3 sloops at one point.

I think the difficulty has increased as people who know what they are doing are left. The remainder of the attention fragmented people who cant concentrate on anything for more than 1 second as Facebook has addled their minds are leaving.

  • @cooliocam I must say, their trailer is pretty acurate, because it contains the intire game.

  • @weesalty-mug how can we play together without using gamertags lol mine is ninja then an h then 003

Actually the trailer showed more! Outfits and ship designs shown in the trailer are not available in game.

  • @dr-killjoy147 you are right! the conquistador set is nowhere to be found!

  • @zynthetikk86 said in Is the player base dying fast:

@cmm-solo It's a shallow game with bad combat and nice water. Stop trying to make this game sound hardcore because the gameplay is painfully simple.

I don't think you should say that because you are only speaking from your own experience. There are a lot of players who are just not very good at the game. Maybe they don't have a lot of time to dedicate to it because of their jobs. Maybe they're kids or elderly. Maybe they're just dumb and clumsy. You could say that they don't belong in Sea of Thieves, but that would be a different discussion.

  • Yesterday we played 3 hours aprox. and we killed 17 aprox. different guys on that time (3 galleons, 3 sloops) on the same server.

  • I really am ashamed that founders, beta, and alpha testers where not listened to about the content, the bugs, and the exploits. No way can they not have reported the stuff we saw. I am going to go out of a limb here and say Rare did not care, and posted it when knowing fair well it was trailer trash release.

You new gamer generations can play with these types of games, because they are not very well designed. Donkey Kong anyone?

or it will remain this shallow existance of grind to 50 and there you go thats thegame

  • Lol, the game has been out only a few weeks and people want refunds or are crying about it. When GTA5 went on sale they took 2 weeks to even open up the live play and long after that they needed to fix it over and over. Impatient children. Good things come to those who are willing to wait.

To compare this game to GTA V is a cardinal sin.

  • there's only 2 servers left open and all but 3 copies were refunded.

  • since the servers are instanced this is purely coincidence.

  • I'm sure the player base has dropped off somewhat now that anyone who got a game pass trial at launch will be past the trial date. That's my situation; just didn't feel there was enough to this game to warrant spending money on it so I cancelled the pass.

I'm hoping they can turn it around because I feel there's a good foundation here, and if things look better once they reveal any kind of information regarding their roadmap I might come back later, but for now it's just not worth the $60 (or $10 for game pass)

  • yes players not playing this game anymore the way gold system work and getting crashed in 30 mins or a hour plus the 4 player ship destroyed everything they steal everything after saying freindly lets join an alliance im gonna be deleting this game to if they don't fix the crash thing in a week im fed up with this!

  • @demonic666army sorry to hear about your troubles if you are experiencing this much crashes please submit a support ticket so the devs can have a look at it. However reviving a 5 month old thread isn’t really going to help anything. @Deckhands maybe a lock is in order for this one ?

  • @demonic666army

Ahoy mate, we do have a forum rule which prohibits bringing back old topics mainly because the vast majority of them contain information which has been superseded and is out of date now.

If you're experiencing problems with crashes we'd strongly recommend submitting a ticket via Support so the cause can be investigated.

    Bumping Threads
Bumping threads with content that is not providing additional information to the original post is not permitted. Resurrecting threads over one month old is also not permitted. A warning will be issued and the thread locked.
