So Tired of Losing Everything When Game Crashes

  • I thought the most recent patch fixed the "video driver" crashing. I was wrong. Yet again. I lose my haul - this time it was only 2 chests - because the game wasn't programmed to give me a grace period to get back in and save my stuff.

This is not difficult, Rare. In WoW, if the game crashes, it keeps me in the instance for a certain amount of time so I can get back in and not lose any progress. This grace period also allows PVPers to continue to kill me if I quit in order to escape them.

THERE IS ZERO REASON NOT TO ALLOW THIS IN THE GAME! I can't imagine if I was going for the 20 chest achievement and the game crashed as I pulled in to dock. I understand the game will crash. Rare can't possibly know every configuration for hardware. They can, however, give us a grace period to get back in and not lose all the time and effort we've committed. Ridiculous.

  • Ugh... and it happened again. Luckily I turned in 10 of my chests and only lost one captain's chest. It's absurd that I can't join again and continue where I left off.

  • Yet another video driver crash. Once again, I lose all my stuff. This time it's six chests (including two captain's chests) and two gunpowder barrels. Rare, help me out here. What is the mentality behind not giving us a grace period to get signed back in and not losing out on our stuff?

As I've said before, I understand it's sometimes difficult to prevent 100% of the crashes. For god's sake, though, give us 2-3 minutes to get back in and continue our voyage! I'm so tired of losing everything. Making progress as a solo player is hard enough without having to restart a giant gold hoarder's voyage chain again.

  • I haven't had the game crash once. Sounds like you need to upgrade or fix something. Stop blaming Rare for your poor quality machine.

Have you tried what all the fanboys suggest and use your imagination?

  • I only had crash issues during the final beta, not alot of people complain about it so I'm assuming it's not that big of a problem and your just a rare case. Try reinstalling your game and see if that helps, perhaps you just have files missing.

Seriously? Did you not actually read my post? I gave Rare the benefit of the doubt with respect to stopping all crashes. It is inexcusable that one should lose everything when the game crashes. You should get a period (2-3 minutes) to get back in and resume where you left off. This grace period also gives players attacking you a chance to finish you and take your stuff if you quit to escape them. It's a win-win.

  • @RageCageZ Although happy420pirate is clearly a bundle of sticks, it is true that the problem may partially be on your end, at least until Rare puts something in place to keep you in an instance upon a crash (good luck with that...)

If you're not tech savvy (or you don't wanna waste lots of time) i suggest a tiny free program that will automatically update all your PC drivers to the latest release, including all your motherboard device drivers. (what model is your graphics card btw?)

    https://www.snappy-driver-installer.org/download/

Download only the application, start it and choose 'download indexes only', once it's done checkmark all the drivers that need to be updated, press 'install' and let it do its thing, restart your pc and try the game again.

It may solve your problem or it may not, granted that updating your drivers is always a good thing anyway.

  • Friend and I just turned in the full contents of a skull fort but the skull fort skull never paid out in reputation or gold. I turned it in and literally got nothing for it. I guess it doesn’t matter since the skull fort skull commendation has not counted a single skull I’ve turned in.

  • @ragecagez I've been having the same issue, despite doing everything the support page and forums suggested. Crashes happen sure. Would be nice to have a grace period to rejoin. I agree with you it seems to be a perfectly reasonable request to me.

Thank you for that laugh. 10/10.

  • @TalonWren even if it wasn't on topic, i still upvoted him cause it made me genuinely laugh :D

Seriously, who makes a session based game, but then doesn't add the ability to reconnect to it? Just awful game design.

You would think this was the first multiplayer game ever made, the way it is designed.

    Ugh... and it happened again.

did you turn lighting down to cursed? it helps a little. I have to restart the game every hour to avoid a crash.

my rig is decent too, maybe not the best but I did the liquid cooling loop myself and it looks pretty cool (: I have a
ryzen 1800x CPU, a vega64 GPU, 16g of ram at 3200mhz the game is installed on a nvme drive.

  • @ragecagez Yet another reason to award reputation on voyage complete.

  • Me too. I get allmondbeard errors only to find that the Xbox is still connected to the internet just fine. It's a pain in the rear bumper, that's for sure, and really breaks the immersion during a long voyage. It also discourages exploration because it means having to rush back to cash things in rather than taking our time to look around.

  • My game has never crashed on my Xbox.

  • @MattyDove74 and @TalonWren Please refrain from personal attacks and baiting others on the forums, as that type of behavior is against our Forum rules.

I'll never understand comments like this. Did you not read my original post? It's 100% irrelevant whether you've personally had crashes or not. My point is the design itself. When you quit the game (intentionally or via a crash), your digital character and ship should remain "logged in" for a brief period of time.

And if you log back in during this grace period, your ship, character, and all the treasure you have should still be there. If you miss this grace period, then your character restarts at a random tavern when you continue play.

  • @ragecagez idk how you even play this stupid game it never loads and always says matchmaking failed and I know it’s not my internet because every other game I play works just fine with no issues Rare or whoever the idiots are that made this game clearly don’t know how to make a gdamn game it’s pathetic they want 60$ for this game

  • We lost 19 chests 8 from them where Captains duo to chrashes the last two days
The performance is even worse then before

And it's super deflating to spend that much time accumulating these chests and lose it all through no fault of your own. Rare, comment?

  • @ragecagez Its taking not that much time, but to get so many Captains needs Luck
Either way it sucks i saw people who lost all the Loot from the Raid cause of such Server crashes

it must be fixed or when something like that happens a Bounty must be sold out to all Players from the Server that was down
And i think the first one is easier to do

  • I have all my drivers and windows 10 up to date... I have reinstalled the game and I am running ALL graphics on cursed yet I still get the amd driver crash frequently. Last night it cost my crew a huge bounty because I crashed just as we were about to engage another ship...

I wont give Rare the benefit of the doubt... The majority of AAA developers out there with higher fidelity graphics dont crash my video driver at all... Ever... I don't see why I should give Rare a pass here.

So if you dont get these issues yourself you can go right ahead and S**U... Let those who have the issue speak.

  • @personalc0ffee said in So Tired of Losing Everything When Game Crashes:

I have had the game crash on me maybe twice in my 300+ hours I've been playing it.

The problem, I feel rests with your computer. I would start checking drivers, the operating system itself, the install directory, and lastly your hardware.

Ugh... stop. Re-read my comment. I clearly stated I was understanding that Rare can't possibly eliminate ALL crashes for ALL configurations of PCs. My point is that if your game crashes (or you quit), there should be a grace period for you to rejoin without losing everything. Your character and ship should remained logged in even after you disconnect.

    Again.

I UNDERSTAND CRASHES EXIST. MY POINT IS TO HAVE A GRACE PERIOD FOR YOU TO REJOIN AND HAVE YOUR SHIP STILL LOGGED IN TO THE INSTANCE.

Sorry, misunderstood your post. I'll agree to your grace period idea. Losing treasure that way would blow.
