So I got sea of thieves with game pass on Xbox one, and I really want to like the game. But the rubberbanding is horrible and really takes away from the enjoyment of the game. When it takes me five tries just to get up on a dock without warping back into the water it can be a little frustrating. Combat is a similar mess;. Hard to hit things or avoid getting hit when I'm jumping all over the place. Running on x1 with a wired 100mbps connection, just checked my ping using Xbox dashboard and it's 30ms. I don't have this issue in ANY other games. For a modern online game this is pretty surprising to see these issues, really needs to be addressed... If I had paid full price for this game I would really be upset.
[fixed] Rubberbanding horribly on Xbox one with wired connection
@j-of-core It does feel alot like it's not running on a dedicated server. The difference in lag from server to server is strange, that shouldn't happen if I am always playing at the same data center. Which makes me wonder, maybe it isn't? That would explain why it's seemingly so easy to cheat. Possibly only matchmaking and player stats are done by Rare?
So I finally got my problem figured out. I started doing some step by step ping testing inside my network, removing a device at a time until I had just my laptop connected directly to my modem. I found that when I pinged the internal interface on my modem, I was seeing occasional but serious changes to the ping response times. Normally I would get sub 5ms pins, but then every so often my ping would jump to 1500-2000ms, which was an obvious issue. I did a little more testing and it seems that my modem was just old and acting like a piece of junk (it was around 5y old). Purchased a new modem, got it hooked up tonight, and now the issue is pretty much gone. Still the occasional jitter, but so much better and smooth almost all the time. Any minor twitches I see now I would consider "normal" variations in Internet traffic. Just thought I'd update this for anyone having a similar problem - just because other games don't show the same signs just means they handle the lag in a smoother way, but in my case, issue appears to have been mostly internal on my end.

Yea this is why it's a good idea to keep the firmware updated on the hardware and to keep up to date on the latest versions for the connection that you have at the time, glad to see you got your issue resolved.
