I think ships should have different cargo capacities... and when it runs out... its gone:
- Food - restore health - duh
- Beer - restore stamina for swimming... else you swim slower. (and fun)
- Wood - For repairs (but also for re-spawning ship)
- Ammo/Cannonballs - duh
- Spare Crew - (for re-spawns)
Then:
- Add more ships.. (with different cargo sizes/arrangements)
- Swimming uses stamina... and the less you have, the slower you swim.
- When you run out of stamina swimming... you sink and die.
- When you die... it uses up one of your Spare Crew in order to re-spawn your Pirate.
- When you die and you have no Spare Crew left... you spawn as a "Ghost Crewman". (this is so you can still partake in the action until your friends die)
- Ghost Crewmen can only repair, bail water, and load cannonballs.
- Ghost Crewmen move slower, repair slower, etc, etc.
- Ghost Crewmen can not take damage.. they are more like a mildly helpful observer.
- Ghost Crewmen's souls are bound the ship and cannot leave.
- When all players die and no Spare Crew are left... you all re-spawn at a harbor. Where you can re-purchase cargo and set out again. Your old ship will remain in the game world for a bit.
- When you run out of wood... the ship will no longer re-spawn. Your crew will need to "Surrender" to teleport back to a harbor. Where you can re-purchase cargo and set out again.
- If your ship is gone, you should be able to claim a different ship as yours. (only if that ships crew has died)
- Add creative places to replenish cargo when at sea. (this includes resurrecting any "Ghost Crewmen" on your ship)
- Ghost Crewmen will eventually re-spawn - even if no Spare Crew are available. (this makes it less awful if you just cant find a spot to re-stock your cargo)
