How about a 3 man sloop?

  • I understand that 4 is the minimum needed to pilot a huge galleon (a floating 3 story house that you drive) but do we have to use a galleon with a three man crew? It was freaking impossible. No sooner did we leave port but we sank on some rocks. Blind as a bat from the wheel and 2 more sets of eyes cant navigate and make sure you dont ram into stuff. I had to keep leaving the wheel and running 100 yards to the bow of the ship every 30 seconds to make sure we didnt ram into... you name it... rocks, an island, another ship... Please let us have more than 2 people on a sloop... the galleon is just TOO DAMN BIG!!!

  • Negative. Three on a sloop would be overpowered. You have one at the helm, one gunning, and one bailing/repairing, eliminating the major weakness of the sloop, which is it's fragility, while not sacrificing mobility or firepower.

  • If your having trouble sailing a galleon with 3 then the crew are not doing there job, or you have a bad helmsman. I can solo sail the galleon, its not that difficult. It should be easy for 3.

  • I think a 3 man sloops, being slower, with only 2 cannons, will still be plenty vulnerable vs a galleons 4 men, higher speed, and 8 cannons.

  • i think they should allow 15 on the sloop and 50 on the galleon

  • While we are addressing crew sizes it would make sense to allow upto 6 men on a galleon and 4 on a sloop. It seems like a more ideal number based on the size of these ships.

@awesomefntn 3 on a sloop, 6 on a galleon would be probably the max. Would make the galleon make more sense, I'm too lazy most times to sail a galleon. Couple extra people would go a long way. 3 to a sloop would be so helpful for the voyages and make them not drag as much. Also, would make one boarder less reliable. Super easy to kite the current crew sizes.

This arrangement also seems very agreeable.

Nope. Not cool with that. They made a very good design the way they have it.

And no, I’m not a fanboy. I totally believe they messed up by not having safe zones(probably soon). But anyways, a sloop shouldn’t be able to take on a galleon. Fantasy or reality wouldn’t matter. In any sense they shouldn’t win 👍

Nope. Not even close. 4 and 2 are the perfect numbers. Nothing will be better than that
    👍

  • No, we need a brig, a 3-crew ship to fill the gap, balanced

  • Another solution to the three man scenario is a mid-sized ship. Bigger than a sloop, smaller than a galleon and you can only get it with a 3 man crew.

  • @awesomefntn I think this is the correct course of action.

  • @a13xa4d3r Just a side point here, unrelated to the OP. But 3 man Galleon is weak not because of skills needed, but because of time to execute tasks. I mostly run a 2 man sloop, and encountering a 3 man Galleon is basically a freebie.

Boarding one of these things with only 3 men, it feels imposing. Too much ground to cover. Tactically it feels wrong to leave port with only 3 men in a galleon, blind spots are just the beginning. You cant even weigh anchor at full speed, you have that empty 4th arm dragging.

I've been part of a 3 man crew on a Galleon more then a few times. Coordination and communication is key.

Its very possible. Its better with 4, for sure. Correction, its better with 4 who are working as one. not 2 or 3 working as one and one or two are tourists. :D

...and add a kitchen to the ships, so we can get rid of the useless spices...

Sure with 3 men it is possible to lug around a galleon... But is it good... Can it be better? A mid-size ship could make it better.

  • 3 person teams are kind of the odd group out. I agree with @LoboFH. perhaps a brig option.
2 max is good for sloop. Wish the galleons could have 5-6 person teams. Some of us have built 5-6 stack teams from other games and would like to carry those friendships over to this game without leaving the 1 or 2 people out.

Yes. 4 is how galleons were designed, but there are a ton of people out there with 5 to 6 on their team. If there are patch updates maybe all these things can be considered. Mid-size ships. 6 man galleons. The 3 man dilemma. It should all be considered.

  • @awesomefntn ...WOW!!! THANK YOU RARE!!! https://seaofthieves.gamepedia.com/Brigantine
I like this... 3 man ship.
Larger than a sloop, but smaller than a Galleon.

  • Necro your own post? lol

I'm happy about the Brigantine as well. quite fun to sail even solo.

Edit: either I clicked on the wrong thread or I’m way to tired to be posting here lol... could have sworn this was a new thread when I read the preview lol..

Literally sunk the whole server consisting of 2 sloops a full brigantine and a 4 player galleon and completed the cursed sails battle at the same time with a 3 person galleon the other day. We always kept 2 aboard and only
Sent a 3rd away to board when the situation called for it, i got a full wipe on the galleon crew and wrecked one of the sloops so bad with cannons they sunk like a lead weight, and I hit one guy on the brigantine in the face with a cannonball as they tried to ram, after already having filled their ship with holes on the approach.

I’m sure my teammates helped to set up these moments and definitely helped with cannons and we all were bailing and repairing frantically whenever someone made a call out.

Point is that solo players can accomplish a lot, and each skilled solo player you add to a crew can increase potential by more than double. It’s all about awareness and knowing when to act in what way, like that Bruce lee quote about water. Be water my friend. Lol

LOL. I havent played SoT for a bit and just saw they added the 3-man ship recently. It made me remember this discussion from back at launch when I felt the 3-man dilemma was important to address... I had to necropost the heck out of this one.

It was @AwesomeFNTN that necro'd this post, not @KING-DEKA. Although I'm happy for him that he got the ship he dreamed, it's against the forum rules to revive month old posts so just flag it and it'll be locked soon enough.

    Ahoy mates,

While you are right; reviving a topic that is over a month old is against the rules, I think this is one of those situations where it's not really a big deal. OP revived their own topic and added to the discussion at hand.

    It's alright folks :)

Glad to hear you're enjoying the Brig, it's an awesome ship and fits well between the galleon and sloop, I feel.

Thanks for coming back to add to your original concern and I'll close this one down now!
