Why can't I just buy animal cages for 10 gold each?

    I got a voyage for 2 white chickens and 1 red chicken. I got the three chickens and went to turn them in. Oops. It was for 1 white chicken and 2 red chickens. I gave the extra white chicken to another crew. Now the Merchant Alliance rep won't give me another chicken cage. This seems like a stupid gameplay design decision.

    Why can't I just purchase as many cages for any animal type I want? Why am I locked to specific cages for my specific voyage? Why is this supposed sandbox game so restrictive?

    i think that would be too op. animal crates have to be rare to stop being fro, bashing golden animals and selling them constantly

    There is a relatively easy way to collect crates.

    Take a merchant alliance voyage, collect the crates, then cancel the voyage. Do this until you have tons of crates, then take new voyages and start collecting animals. If you've 20 chickens on your deck, chances are you could turn in at least 8 voyages just by accepting them and sailing to the location.

    No, I know that method. It's ridiculously cumbersome, though:

    1. Buy three voyages for 40 gold each at dock.
    2. Go back to ship and activate one.
    3. Go back to dock and get the cages for voyage.
    4. Go back to ship and cancel voyage.
    5. Activate new voyage.
    6. Go back to dock and get the cages for the voyage.
    7. Go back to ship and cancel voyage.
    8. Activate new voyage.
    9. Go back to dock and get the cages for the voyage.

    THAT'S. NOT. GOOD. GAMEPLAY.

    Again, just let me pay 10-20 gold for the cages I want. That way I can do whatever and if I make a mistake and lose a cage, I can just buy a new one of the right type.

    Yes, it is somewhat cumbersome. Also, if you lose a crate while on the voyage they don't give you a new one either.

    It could use some tweaking, and I think being able to buy crates, up to say 5 at a time, would be beneficial.

    Unless you're selling animals for a quest, they are worth about the same as a gunpowder barrel.
