You Shouldn't Lose Everything Due To A Game Crash

  • So... I was just on my way back to an outpost - ready to sell about 5 chests, an artifact, and a golden chicken - when the game crashed due to a "driver error". I try to get back into the game (it takes over a minute to load into the game world) and I wake up in a tavern with a new ship and nothing.

This is complete and utter c**p. There needs to be a window of opportunity to get back in-game and NOT lose your haul. It's incredibly frustrating. I didn't crash my ship. I didn't get raided by pirates. The game raided me.

  • Dont you lose everything in most games because of a crash unless you saved?

  • @aprovoked-mango I agree with your statement. I just have to note that "saving" in this game could take anywhere from 30 min to 2hrs depending on sea traffic.

  • @aprovoked-mango

I can't think of another game in which you'd lose everything due to a crash. Even in a game like WoW, you have a certain amount of time to get back in and resume where you crashed. If I'm playing competitive Overwatch, it gives me the option to re-join the match from the main menu.

  • This just happened to me as well. Looted a sunken wreck and received a villainous skull and a couple hateful skulls and a map that led me to a captains chest. As soon as i got onto the boat with the chest my game locked up.

I never would have imagined they wouldn't have a resume previous session option. I can't even bring myself to login again knowing I could just lose it all because of a dumb crash.

  • Plenty of games do let you reconnect and join where you left off. It would be nice if SOT would do the same. There has been more than one occasion where the game caused my PC to crash, thankfully my friend(s) stayed in and I was able to rejoin before a random player did, and collect the gold for our chests. There has been at least once where I crashed while in a solo sloop with good booty and wasn't able to rejoin, which was a tad frustrating.

So yea, if Rare could provide and option to rejoin it would save lot of crying over spilt booty.

  • It is inexcusable that a looter / permadeath style game does not have a reconnect feature.

    Absolutely rubbish.

  • Aaaamd that's why I avoid solo sloop like the plague, unless I want to solo pvp only. Every time I go to an outpost it's a gamble, 33% chance to have my drivers crash and the progress be lost.

  • @sadralelth I've been there. It is incredibly frustrating and I hope they fix the GPU issues. I just let it go.

  • I have to add that this is happening on average of about once a day now across multiple computers. It's not just my personal computer at home. It's crashing on four separate computers - one Nvidia the rest AMD. It is beyond ridiculous that Rare didn't think to implement a rejoin feature like just about every other game.

The worst part about it is that there's no reason to lose everything when you quit. Just save your place in the world with your existing voyages and inventory! WoW does it and it works fine. There's a delay to keep people from abusing it and escaping a death, too.

  • Let's really rub salt in the wound and give you a black screen with a spinny wheeeeel and sound so you can hear your loot sail off without you.
