Cannons on the Sloop

  • What is going on with the number cannon on the Sloop?

The galleon has a max four man crew and it gets four cannon on each side one per crew member and sloop has a max two man crew but only gets one cannon per side. If all cannon are fully manned the galleon can put 8 eight shots for every 2 of the sloop even if they both have full crews. The Sloop should have 2 cannons perside giving it a 4 to 8 shot ratio against the galleon. This would not unbalance solo sloops as you can only use one cannon at a time :-)

Balance. Everything has been carefully balanced, from the number of cannons, right down to the distance you have to travel from the cannons to the cannonball barrels, or how far you have to travel to reload your pistol.

Galleons have terrible mobility versus the sloop. The best way to take them down is to take advantage of this and stay out of the galleons cannon fire but lining up in front of or behind the galleon. If you have a 2 man crew it is also beneficial to try and board and drop their anchor as it takes much longer to raise than the sloop. If your looking not to fight then just make a galleon commit to a hard left or right turn and then switch your sloop opposite directions to leave them in the dust.

If you have access to gunpowder barrels as well you can utilize these to break a chase from a galleon by either dropping it off the back of your ship if they are following you in a straight line and will cause 4 holes in their hull

Still seems odd that the larger ship gets a cannon each but not the smaller.

Rarely will a galleon be firing all 4 cannons unless if they are stationary as that means no one will be piloting the ship where as the sloop if you are 2man 1 person can remain on the cannon while the pilot continually lines up shots and repositions

Agreed rarely it will happen however the case is it CAN happen
