So... how do I get my microphone to work in-game?

  • Yes. I've already enabled voice chat and all that other nonsense in the Windows 10 privacy settings. Sea of Thieves AND Xbox app is set to "on" in my Windows 10 microphone settings. The mic still isn't working in-game.

It's a USB Blue Yeti if that has anything to do with it. It's absurd that it just doesn't work.

  • @ragecagez It's probably a Windows thing, not a game thing imo. One of the most common things is that it's not set as the default Recording Device in Windows, especially if it's USB.

Right click your speaker icon in the tray and select Recording Devices. Right click your USB mic listed there and click Set As Default Device. You might need to do the same thing under Playback Devices as well if you can't hear any sound either.

Play around with a sound recording app in Windows, or on Discord to test. If it works there it "should" work in game.

  • @doubledizle I've tried those things. It just flat out doesn't work. It works in Overwatch and I can even record files into Voice Record in Windows. I guess I'm just stuck using Discord with friends.

I had this problem also. Setting Microphone as Default is not enough though. You also have to make sure you set DEFAULT AS COMMUNICATION DEVICE on that same section. Hopefully that should fix it.

I'm in the same boat. Mic works for EVERYTHING but SoT and I've done every troubleshooting step possible.

  • @ragecagez My security suite used to stop others hearing me and I had to 'allow audio' from Sea of Thieves. Tried checking that?

  • I had to disable the analog microphone port and make sure all I had was my usb headphones and I also had to change my windows/xbox privacy settings to everyone.

  • Hey guys.@RageCageZ

You have to allow in the settings of windows that sea of thieves can use your mic.

    1. press Win+I
    2. click "Microphone"
    3. switch it on for sea of thieves and the xbox-app

That works for me. Have fun!

  • @ragecagez That's odd. You sure you don't have Push To Talk turned on then? Not sure what else it would be.

  • I had to give permission to my mic on the actual Xbox live website, not just the app. I too tried everything else and figured out finally that was the issue. Hope that's it!

  • Can you tell us precisely where is that setting ? I can't find it ! Thanks !
