A Thing for Modern games?

  • Mostly I aint too sure about this theory but it puzzles me of the way I look at games now of day. Mostly when new games come out and have been very hyped from the looks, mechanics, etc it gets tons of people to ready and buy it and play it. But from launch the game has it whiplash and backfired moment that made the game look like it was going to fail for good.

But it wasn't always that case, sure some games do flop and don't recover but games such as Rainbow 6 siege, The Division and other games, it gets tons of more people back and playing it and loving the heck out of it. It makes me wonder if modern games might end up like this in the future and maybe having the same idea for SOT. I mean not all games will end up like this for now on but its something to think about if this idea work well that its worth for paying for the game. SOT has its backlash of course with people saying the lack of content and some errors and all such but it might look like just the ideal thing for the game.

This theory or idea of games having this tactic of starting off bad, but works is way back up to be the great hit is what I like to call the "Backwards slope" (or any other name that sounds more reasonable and better). For simple and easy explanation is having a game with starting base and works it way up from the ideas and testing from the game and feedback from the community. Instead of having a normal game (random example of a big and popular game) starts off with a lot of content in it and keeps it like that without add too much in it. For normal type games that has everything it needs would last for a while but it can become irrelevant overtime as people will just do everything they can and that be it for the game as it had a long run and it be move on to the next game.

For games like SOT it has its way to become relevant longer than an average game. Example would be R6 (rainbow six siege) It started out bad, but it made a comeback and become very popular and loved and still be relevant because it keeps having more and more ideas and content close to every month and it been released from 2015 and still holding strong. SOT can have that same result, as the new content will arrived in three months, so this could be a well love game soon enough. But this will have some chances/risks/drawbacks into this tactic.

    1. It could risk the game to be a flop depending on how strong the community and devs will last until the 3 months, which also could leave those 3 months of work into more disaster or good fortune.

    2. How relevant can it be until it be forgotten, as it might take a lot longer to regain back people to play it.

    3. The timing. Big problem is that 3 months could turn tides to this game as maybe another game involves pirates could be more better than SOT depending on the content and most of all prices.

So that's what I think is the case of SOT, it does have the content of course but its not going to be all perfect for everyone and only time can tell of what's going to happen next.
