Fortress Key Despawned!

    We successfully completed a skeleton fortress and picked up the Fortress Key. Because there were other ships around and it was a heated battle we decided to take the Fortress Key on to our ship and sail away.

    We had the idea to try the Fortress Key on a different Fortress lock and just as we got to the island the Fortress Key that was in the hand of one of our teammates disappeared as he was just running up to the door. Our initial train of thought was that he had dropped it on his way to the door but it was very improbable that he would have done this and I actually saw the key in his hand and one moment to be replaced with a sword.

    I was reluctant to report this as a bug but I would most certainly like an answer to this problem.

    I am sure you can appreciate that the four of us had spent the past 4 hours not only trying to fight the skeletons but also fight off three other groups of players (and a surprise kraken attack) for it all to end in disappointment like that. We spent our whole evening having fun for it to end very badly in an argument that left a sour taste in our mouths. The player with the key was made to feel like it was his fault and may not even come back to play again because of this negative experience.

    Please can you let me know if this has happened to anyone else before and what we can do in the future to ensure it doesn't happen again.

    Maybe you were migrated to a different server. If you were far enough away from everyone the you might have been migrated to another server. That is how the game handles the pvp. It migrates you to keep you within a certain distance of other ships.

    The question is, if it migrates you does it let you take the fort key with you? I imagine it wouldnt migrate you while you are battling at the fort but since you completed it and sailed away it have moved you to a new server where the key is invalid.

    If it makes you guys feel better, I've opened "other fortresses", twice, and neither had anything in it. Loot is only in the fortress which had the skull above it. The key is wasted anywhere else unless a skull was there and for some reason the key had not been used.

    It definitely didn't migrate us to another server because when I turned the ship around to go back to the original fortress the same guys were still camping it (an hour later).

    It's also good to know that you actually managed to open the other fortresses with the key too and that if we had opened it we still wouldn't have gotten anything.

    At the end of the day the best part of the night was fighting the other players for control of the island and it's waters and seeing them sink to a watery grave! At one point, when we were trying to sail away from them chasing us with the fortress key we had a kraken attack that actually helped us escape! :D

    I most certainly still think the key despawning was a bug, however. I have put in a ticket with the support team to see what might have happened.

    Just happened to use, we scuttled the ship to make sure it didn’t fall into the boat or water. Very frustrating.... I hope they fix this

    @brigadius It only migrates you when it notifies you. It doesn't auto migrate without notification. I bet it has something to do with the fact that you have to take the key to the same fortress.
