Okay so this streamer is legit lobby hopping into groups that do strongholds already at outposts. He turns in leaves and joins another group. He does this over and over. Seems kinda lame imo. What does Rare and the community think about this? Lobby hopping strongholds to get Pirate Legend faster....
Lobby Hopping....
It's a cheesey way of getting to max level. If Rare is planning to do something special for the first person to reach legendary status, I hope they disqualify this guy. If they aren't planning on doing anything, then no harm done. At least we get to see what being a pirate legend actually means. Sadly, I have a feeling that we are all going to be extremely let down.
@dalinoge
I agree. I think it should be punishable. It's kind of affecting the community. The whole idea of the method is just lame. he's basically doing nothing and having a community do the work for him... pathetic.@hewithoutaname1 from the first instance this game was announced it was made well aware that all player will be equal.
I can play for 10 hours and still be at the same level as someone who has played 100 hours.
It's a balanced playing field.
It is brilliant and make it so much more fun knowing I can come home from work and play for an hour or so and not have to worry about people who have been addicted to it for days/weeks demolishing me.
Balanced.
Why should he be punished? Because Rare doesn't know how to make a game? How is that fair?
If they actually played their game they would have realized players were going to do that since it's the best way to get to about 35. It remains the best if you're solo. They would have realized that people would abuse the fact that they can't be kicked to afk farm.
People shouldn't be punished for Rare's awful decisions.
@xpial I don't know the streamer your talking about but I have been alone on a galleon as multiple times people spawned in to see if I had loot to turn in realized I had none (or chickens) and hopped off to another server I know as much since they left mics on and said as much and I assume they did not think I would hear. This is an issue that demeans what little dignity there is to playing the game as intended I try really hard to not let the constant grind get to me by taking my time and breaking up my play sessions with other games if this does not get addressed soon I will lose faith that there is any point into not gaming the system. I am also unsure as to how this could be addressed properly the only thing that comes to mind is a leaver penalty but I hate those since they tend to punish those who are not leaving intentionally as well.
Forgive me if I'm wrong here but dont you only get chests and skulls from the raid? It's a pretty cheesy tactic to quickly farm up gold and gain some progression but it'd mostly be gold hoarder rep with some skull order rep and no merchant rep.
Once he's done sessipn hopping he still has a fair amount of merchant grinding to do?
Still think it's kinda lame, but hey. People will exploit anything to save time. Be it game mechanics, or other players.
@capt-gnashmaw interesting, we only had skulls and a chest.. Only done one Fort raid. Don't intend to do anymore until its worked on some more.
Thanks for the info
@xpial Server hopping is the best way to play the game as a solo player. It earns you the most gold and gets you right into the action. The game's fundamentals were never really thought out, likely because they were rushed to release.
@xpial It's the most efficient way to get through the grind that begins at rank 20. After that, top level loot is the only thing that gives noticeable reputation gain.
Do I think it's a good thing for the game? Hell no. But with the current amount needed to get past rank 20, there's no way to punish it without hurting the playerbase.
Hell, I have people leave a skelly fort the second PvP happens. Just up and go. Nope, to hard, I'll find another one. There's no incentive to stay, there's no incentive to do voyages as there is no 'Voyage complete' reputation gain. There's no incentive, really, to do anything but find a rock near an active outpost, wait till the skull disappears, roll in and sink the enemy ship, profit. Switch server, repeat. With a four man crew? That'll be your first pirate legends. :)
@sn4res ive gotten a fort where half of the loot was merchant alliance stuff not counting the fact that 8 to 12 gunpowder barrels are on each fort which sell for as much gold and rep as a seafarers chest
@dantheman929 wowzers. OK, lol.. Thanks for the info guys.. That's cool to know.
If only they were enjoyable to participate in, lol. Might consider it.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. Thanks again for the info.
@xpial The rank 1 right now lobby hops with a premade group to try to join servers with Strongholds active. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Most efficient way to gain rep... Now the group of people that are all playing on one account so it is active 24/7 should not be allowed, but server hopping to get Strongholds is just the best way to farm rep/gold.
Yeah I get server hopping to find strongholds. This guy is getting invited by people who already did the stronghold and has the loot sitting at the outpost so all he has to do is join and get the turn in rep/gold.... he leaves gets invited to the next group and so on. I shouldn't have even said server hop since he's basically just getting invited to free loot.. so dumb lol.
@sn4res no biggie on the info dump part of this issue is actually stemming from the community itself I have seen at least two big youtubers who have gone out of their way to show that skull forts are the fastest means to leveling up both in gold and in rep this issue is leading to lobby hopping till active fort found. and some go even further then lobby hop til you find a crew turning in loot. Their are even threads here on the forums just looking for fort raidning members too.
@dantheman929 Yea i have no issue with server hopping to find and do forts. it's just went someone gets invited to like 5-6 in a row that already have loot waiting to be turned in. defeats the purpose of the game and makes the community toxic.
@xpial agreed I have no issue with people that only want to do forts. What I would recommend as a fix is make it so there is always a fort active in an instance and greatly reduce the amount of loot either in value or in number so it does not become the be all end all to progress.
@dantheman929 @xpial Yeah that does seem pretty sad.. But I guess he's not breaking any rules / ToS by doing so. Technically he is still playing the game - just poor sportsmanship.
Agree that forts are a hot topic, can't even look at the forums with 20+ posts all complaining about the same thing (usually really useful stuff too, like I want the fort - but other ppl want it too - boo-hoo!). Most of the playerbase seems to be arguing / losing it with each other just because of this one thing.
Having popular streamers/youtubers encouraging it (esp if they are using somewhat shady tactics) isn't going to help the matter.
Hence my reasoning for leaving it all alone till things are improved.
It seems the best strat atm is just 'turn up and never quit' - not really engaging gameplay.
I don't blame people for starting LFG threads though, i'd only consider going back if I had a crew with me that was organised and had an actual gameplan (other than - we go there, all jump off ship and hammer it then respawn and do it again *yawn).

@jesusthebird Hey it's not so bad. I'm taking advantage of the facty everyone else is at the fort to do my thing with little to no hassle :D

The purpose of the game? I thought the purpose of the game was to create your own adventure? Sounds like his adventure is more productive than yours and you don't like it.
I LOVE that you can't buy buffs. It means you have to rely on skill to play the game. Good players will still outplay the neophytes. I don't really care about cosmetics, either, but there has to be SOMETHING to buy. Hopefully Rare will add some more variety soon, after they get the game stabilized.
Games that give you better equipment for being higher level build toxic communities that shun newcomers. Games that reward skill and teamwork build better communities that teach newcomers to be better.
@blessed-karma I agree, although people who have been non-stop playing for weeks will probably still demolish a more casual player, at least it's down to personal skill and not having a +10 Sword of Salty Tears that a more casual player has no chance of getting their hands on.

That's a pain. But I think the real issue here is the lack of equipment boosts, why don't weapons and armor increase your stats? Who cares about cosmetics if they don't give you an edge in the game?
J*C. This post. Again. Mods I feel awful for you considering you have to sift through trash like this on a daily basis.
