Game uplayable due to freezing?

  • Title says it all.

Beta worked fine but after the first few days, i haven't been able to get in a good session due to the game freezing. I'm playing on AMD, and my set up isn't bad and can do most games at ultra settings.

The freezing itself seems at random and happens on every graphics setting, so I honestly have no clue where the issues are. I also have a problem with the pause ui flickering but that's no where near as frustrating at the game being rendered unplayable.

With the complete lack of content and customization that we were led to believe we were getting, should i just get my money back? I like the game and want to play it, there is definite high hopes for the future but this game honestly isn't worth the $60 base price. I sure as hell don't want to be paying that much for a game that i can't even play, either.

Is anyone else having this freezing issue? Should i abandon ship or drydock until calmer seas?

  • @wraithshadow13 I have never had ANY issues with the game since launch, including the alpha and beta.

    my game works flawlessly.

i have never heard of anyone having this issue so i think it is with your PC not with the game.

what sort of graphics card do you have ? and PC specs ?

i know around 10 or 15 close friends who all play this on PC and have never had this issue.

  • AMD FX 8350
    Crossfired R9 280
    16gb ram

Every other game is at ultra or just a step below, so i don't know why i'm having so much issue here.

Same deal. Seems like the freezing/crashing/driver bork/missing water is dominated by people with AMD hardware. I have tried all the in-game settings, turned off shadow cache in the radeon settings, uninstalled the xbox app, tried drivers 7.10.2, 7.11.1, latest driver and I just crashed out on 8.2.3. Nothing is working. Sometimes it's right when the world loads, sometimes 5, 10, 20 minutes, an hour?

Played for 3 hours straight last night but the game only stays running when my ocean refuses to render, and then it's no guarantee. It's completely random, and I don't always get the same error. about 1/4 of the time it tells me the driver crashed and the rest are just hard crashes to desktop or freezes.

  • @wraithshadow13 I went through some other threads and managed to get it stable on the 7.4.4 relive driver, albeit with some frames loss. Seems to work for some people, might be worth a shot.

  • @ueak-carnage I'll have to check it out. All the crash reports i'm seeing are AMD as well, and god knows, this wouldn't be the first time AMD seems to have issues like this from online games.

  • Same issue here; mostly freezing video or crashing with video driver error after playing about thirty minutes or less.
    AMD Radeon RX 480
    i5-6402P
    16 GB
I don't have Relive installed...will go through that process and report back if there are changes, though I'm traveling on business this week so might be a while before I can get to it.

    Disable Crossfire

  • @wraithshadow13 Hey mate at the moment I have an AMD as well the only thing you can do to "Stop/fix" it is by turning your lighting settings to cursed and setting your global shader cache in AMD Radeon control panel to off. This sort of works but is not a full fix I hoped I helped

  • I'll have to try both of those, this weekend. I've not been able to play the game for a bit but with the things not working, i haven't been as motivated. I will definitely post about the results, regardless.

Thank you for the options to try.

  • Crashes, Yo. It seems like it wasn't happening nearly as fast but it was still happening. Also, i'm having a weird color flash issue, every now and then, while testing.
