What if you could have a animal (one per person or maybe even ship) that could help the crew in some sort of way. Such as if you had a parrot he could tell you when you are going to hit a rock or some other crew is approaching. You could have each animal do different stuff. example Maybe another animal could be a monkey and when you get to an island he goes around to barrels and grabs you bananas. Turtle could tell you when underwater treasure is near.
I was trying to think of other animals that are linked to pirates. Like a rat, snake, octopus, etc. and they could all do different task when equipped.
Just an idea. Would probably turn into micro transactions. My idea would be you would have to do "x" amount of things to unlock. or just level hits.

@bamagijoe13-0 Pets will be added to the game within a couple of weeks I'm pretty sure, parrots and cats were teased in trailers but not much else is known yet!
Pets, as well as microtransactions, have already been announced as content being added in the first major patch, about 3 months from now.
