A Brilliant Idea to Stop [Mod Edited] w/out Hurting Their Freedom

  • The idea of ships attacking you on sight is annoying and many PvE'ers wish they weren't allowed to do this. Or when ships claim they will work "together" to kill a skeleton fort and then backstab you, is unbearable for some casual players.

To a PvP'er having a "safety 'non-PvP realm/option'" is one of the most annoying things their is. And betrayal is quite the rush--this is a pirate game after all.

    How to solve this?

Easy. Implement a simple bounty system. (This is just a rough idea, to be improved).

Attacking ships for no reason? (Small Bounty on your head)

Making a pact to take down a fort and then stabbing them in the back? (Large Bounty)-----To identify betrayal, you'd have to implement a "team up" system.

This way, there are consequences to betraying people, yet at the same time, the bounties (if they are large enough) will prevent a decent amount of random attacks. Also, this would make it so the PvP'ers can get money rather than just questing. They could hunt down random bounty ships. Thus, not only shifting their focus to all ships, but on ones who want to PvP. This way we aren't restricting the idea of being a "pirate", we are merely incentivizing PvP'ers to PvP (against PvP'ers [and get rewarded for it])

Upvote this so it gets implemented, or email them. Also Armada's/Alliances would be a cool idea....

  • @irelia75 I really like your ideas. I hope this gets upvoted to the top.

  • I'm happy with bounties, provided the players are spending their own gold on it.

Those amounts will tally up, and exist between servers and continue between sessions. When the player is killed, all people involved in his death split the bounty equally and the players who placed it will be told their target has met their end.

We could totally have a listing of the biggest prices on the heads of pirates. You could even have bounty hunting missions where you select a target based on the reward and get phased into their server.

  • @irelia75 Easiest way to do this IMO is to just increase the bounty more and more the more pvp a group engages in. Even if it isn't griefing. If you're looking for pvp you'd probably want a large bounty so you can keep getting people coming after you. I do hope Rare adds a player bounty system maybe even make a faction out of it where you can pickup assignments to hunt down a crew and get gold based on how many kills/ships sunk they have. Would make for a lot of fun from both the hunters and the hunted.

  • No reason to attack? It’s a pirate game. W*F

  • This idea has been posted countless times throughout the alpha. Unfortunately, it didn't get Rare's attention, at least so it seems.

  • @irelia75 sounds like the old ultima online system

  • Brilliant idea indeed! I like the sound of bounties being placed on those who destroy ships. However, this might be difficult. Would it be based off of who starts the fight on first hit? Because I've dealt with ships who panic and sink themselves. Just thinking out-loud.

    Great post!

  • Good idea me thinks

  • This idea is Brilliant. I think it could work better if we set zones such as "PvP" zones and "PvE" zones. We can set some PvE zones where killing other pirates and sinking their ship would add a bounty on your ship. Whoever sinks a ship that has a bounty on, claims that bounty (if there is more than one ship involved, the bounty is split based on kills and damage, so the crew that participated more in the sinking gets more gold).
The PvE zone pentalty could be like that.
Attacking a ship: Warning about bounty if you sink them or kill players.
Every kill adds a very small bounty on you. Every ship sunk adds bonus bounty on you.
Sinking a ship: Small bounty on you.
Sinking a third ship: Medium bounty on you.
Sinking a fifth ship: Large bounty on you.
    etc.

The PvP zones should be like the ones around the Skull Events, where sinking another ship provides no penalty. There could also be random PvP areas around the map where PvE-ers should be careful or avoid if they don't want to get hit.

    Please Rare, consider player suggestions.

  • Or, you could just go the alternative route, realize that this game is PvPvE, and get better at the PvP ascpect of it by practicing...

  • @irelia75

Why would a bounty matter if nobody wants to fight you for it? Not like you pve crybabies are going to come at a ship with a huge bounty.

  • @virasht I miss UO. This game slightly reminds me of pre-patch UO!

  • Not sure how this will change anything. This is a pirate game and if your aren't at an outpost, there is a chance you have treasure and I'm sinking you to find out. Should I care if a bounty is placed on my head? That only encourages me more because 1) its a sign of stature 2) other ships will come to us (its painfully hard to find ships to sink sometimes). If people don't want to PvP bounties won't change their mind. If people want to PvP.... well there already want to so bounties just encourages more PvP. Your end goal is to "protect" those ships who don't want to PvP, but I don't see how this accomplishes that.

Hopefully you are not trying punish people for acting like pirates in a pirate game.

First off, I don't PvE at all. I want the bounty system so I can get more gold for pvp instead of hoping for chests. I just think it would also help deter some fighting that others would prefer to not engage in. Unlike me, there are people who prefer PvE. Plus, it would encourage PvP'ers to PvP against other people who PvP.

Should you care? Idk, this is not a 'fix everything' idea. I'm not sure the majority of players think it would be a signature. And it will promote PvP FOR PVP'ERS. This is good! I encourage PvP! This just may discourage PvP between some PvE'ers and PvP'ers. Just because this idea does not deter you does not mean it won't deter others. And punish people for acting like pirates? Not all pirates like to attack other pirates. There are plenty who wish to just go for treasure.

I logged on to the forums specifically to post this--I did not browse posts at all. I honestly didn't know it was such a popular idea. However, I'm glad that it is, it makes me have hope that it will get implemented.
