The RX480/AMD/Radeon Problem - Where's My Sea?

  • There's a couple posts on here from around launch time and before talking about issues with crashing on rigs incorporating some kind of AMD/Radeon architecture. The only thing I have that fits the bill is my RX480, which seems to be a card number that pops up when people are having issues with crashing IN CONJUNCTION with disappearing/glitching seas.

My game crashed before reducing the lighting effects to common, which temporarily fixed that issue, but the sea will still vanish or start flashing partially in and out of existence after a few minutes of gameplay. The amount of time it takes for this to happen seems to be longer the lower the water detail setting goes, but I've not been able to eliminate the problem completely.

Just wondering if there's any news on a solution to our very particular problem.

  • I have a Radeon RX 580 8GB and have been having the same problems, especially the sea disappearing or not loading in the first place. Before the game update on Tuesday the game was crashing every 5-10 minutes regardless of how low I turned the settings. The crashing is better now, but the problems with the sea are still there.

I started the game before the update with the Radeon 18.3.3 drivers but with the crashes rolled back to 18.2.3 which helped a little. I recently updated to 18.3.4, but the problems with the sea are perhaps even worse. The patch notes for 18.3.4 say it is optimised for Far Cry 5, but I assumed all the fixes from 18.3.3 would roll forward. Are we supposed to be using 18.3.3 or 18.3.4?
