PSA - DO NOT BUY PROMOTIONS PAST 10

  • Whatever you do, don't level up your factions beyond about 10 (which should be enough to start getting merchant orders for snek.

If you do, you'll get multi part quests that require you to go miles out.
You'll also seem to get more riddles, which are utter c**p, given that you f-ck around for ages for one chest, that may be a castaways.

You should vote, then cancel any s**t-tier quests in order to focus on multi point x marks the spots, or multi crew bounties.
For merchants, only do ones with gold animals (preferably snek)

RARE has made the grind beyond 20ish an absolute joke and my guess is to buy themselves time to actually make some legendary content!

  • @mcdoll Honestly I must say it really just is random. I think it nothing has anything to do with that, I have 40 order of souls and sometimes they across the map and sometimes the next islands over. But I agree it way to rng and just makes people cancel and restart. I have yet to cancel any mission besides merchant alliance and I'm 34,40,32. The drag is getting longer and longer I have also yet to farm forts just playing the game and having fun doing it.

  • @pigeonman-beam yeah man, definitely random.
And the cancel/revote loses you gold. Hence I'd say to just do low level stuff, which seems to only require a visit to islands in the vicinity.

  • PSA: Don't listen to players who tell you to play a certain way :P :D

  • @mcdoll I agree it helps a lot. It does make you drain fast if you cancel however I'm sitting at a good 500,000 and already have my cosmetics. So I just buy all my missions for my crew. I feel like the game has % chance and every upgrade that you get for a factions increases it like 2% so you cant tell the difference in loot but its there if you get lucky. It's just so random this game.

Well have fun wasting all your time and gold on the ludicrous grind!
    Just tying to help.

  • @mcdoll we get it, you suck at this game. End thread

  • @mcdoll You're looking at the game the wrong way.
Cosmetic gear is the ONLY thing to buy, so it's not a 'waste of gold'.
It's not a grind. A grind is repeatedly doing the same thing (ie killing mobs) to get something. In Sea of Thieves, the journey is the reward, the game is the experiences you have. This is not an mmorpg (and yes, I do love those), there is no leveling for epic gear (epic meaning kick-a*s stats). Let that go.
Yes, that's a fine line; it comes down to attitude--if you treat the game as work to get stuff, you're going to be disappointed; if you treat the game as fun and get rewarded for it..well, there you go.

  • I bought every cosmetic item I want already, so now gold is used only to cancel and rebuy quests. at 30+, you get more golden animal quests per quest, so it's definitely worth it to rank up.

If you want to get gold and rep, the best tactic is to rank up whenever possible and only collect golden animals, ignore the rest. You can also keep cancelling quests until you get one for the outpost you're currently on to spam turn in.

    Wow, real helpful!
What does optimising the grind have to do with sucking?
Don't you think I'd have to be already pretty high up to know what the higher rewards are, and how they aren't worth it?
    B*****d.

I'd agree, and to a certain extent I do, if it weren't for the many people claiming that all the content and interesting quests are locked behind lvl50 with all factions.

    @Jecksauce
I get what you're saying, but past about 10 you don't get all that much more in terms of valuable requests.
You can cancel and rebuy heaps more quests to ensure you are only farming gold chickuns too.

But yeah, ultimately you're better off server hopping for forts.

  • I'm Pirate Legend and rank 4 Athenas, I can tell you straight up that you really SHOULD buy promotions, sub 35 you get rather bad chests and skulls but 40+ is where you start getting a lot more captain's chests and vil skulls! The more you rank up the the more chance of better loot. Only go for 3+ chests on a CLOSE ish island, same goes for skulls and as for Merchants yeah bit of a grind but golden animals only, a single gold chicken is worth the sail imo.

  • @mcdoll

    More riddles?

    Cool!

    -level,level,level,level- =p

  • Cancelling bad voyages isn't a waste of gold, it actually gets you MORE gold over time.

  • I will give you my best tips now to become a pirate legend.

    1-- yes

    2-- all the things

    3-- and stuff

  • @ialphaequinoxi this OP obviously has no idea how video games work. I've been to many islands the size of twin groves with 6 treasure chests on them. I suspect it's because I'm a level 40 gold hoarder who buys promotions every time I am high enough level to. I never saw 6 chest islands when I was a level 15. You should try buying promotions lol it's a function in the game for a reason.

Yea, I've noticed this too. Higher level quests seem to give you more options, instead of going out for 1 skull I get sent out to collect 8+ Longer voyages lead to more shipwrecks and random loot on the beaches.

Yup, there really isn't a reason not to promote other than OoS missions if you are a solo player (the skeletons start taking more bullets to kill than you can hold).

If you just want to do one island, then just do the one island and ignore the other five or so. Levelling up gives you island/animal options for you to cherry pick.

I don't personally agree, but for different reasons than might be expected.

Obviously you value more expedient returns to your efforts.

I personally enjoy long sails that force me to travel to farther areas of the map. The long travel sometimes forces me into contact with others on the server, for good or bad. This also allows me to spy glass various atolls, islands, etc and pick up shipwrecks, random loot (which I tend to find a ton of and usually note it of high value).

It also allows me an opportunity to develop an understanding of the full layout of the varied islands I visit, to include the map itself, in my head and react more efficiently when setting sail or out running enemies while trying to head to specific areas.

I do not like the "single chest" factor of the riddles, But I actually do appreciate doing them. They allow me to criss cross the various isles and as I do I can glance on the quick and usually find 1-4 extra treasures, quests, or at least fill the store of my ship.

I agree that the loot from any given treasure hunt does seem to range into the category of maybe 1/3 being "top tier" and the rest are seafarer's/castaway's/foul bounty/etc c**p.

I do not appreciate the feeling I gain from the mid range grind 25-50, it stalls HARD and it stalls fast.

But I still don't agree over with the direction of your post.

But that appears to be a matter of having a desire for different experiences in the game.

That will never be remedied. But if your like me, I disagree, because the other factor not mentioned above is quite simple - I enjoy the time dump because it allows me to experience the game "my way" and with friends whose company I enjoy regardless of the speed of progress.

  • @cpt-peach-beard simple game economics. More money to spend at higher levels yields higher tier rewards bringing in more money and XP to go higher in the game which requires more XP and gold to achieve more progression.

So let me get this straight.. you lot say the following..

"This game doesn't have enough content! It's boring!!"

And then turn around and say..

"Woah this game is giving me too much to do! It's too much content!!"

You want more content, but when the game gives you longer voyages with more things to do.. you hate it.

    Yeah ok bucko.

  • Effort vs reward definitely sounds like it's out of whack and it's weird that the rewards don't seem to be very weighted on the bottom end but are definitely weighted on the higher end (i.e. chances of getting high tier loot is almost nonexistent til you level further, but you still can get low tier loot at higher levels...).

You know it's poor design when it's better to stick to lower tier missions due to how Rare bends you over backwards for the higher missions that don't really reward better loot, just give you a larger amount of what you've already got.

  • PSA: OP clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm doing 45 gold hoarders and 40 order of souls voyages. There is a big difference in amount and quality of the loot in comparison to low level voyages.

I'll grant you that if you don't like sailing there is less of that on the beginner voyages, but I like sailing.

  • @void-presence you are exactly right! Their is so many play styles and unexpected events that it’s better to focus on having fun, working as a team and trying to outwit other pirates. Concentrating on the grind makes you forget about having fun .

    Yeah ok bucko.

So were you born this way, or dropped as a child or something?

The argument that there's no content is in reference to the lack of variety in things to do.

The argument against grinding is against a repetition of dull tasks.

    They aren't mutually exclusive "bucko"

  • I felt this way at first when I hit 25 in Gold Hoarder Voyages, until I started doing them.

I don't know if it's coincidence and RNG, but I've been finding a lot of side treasure on these voyages. Shipwrecks, and random marauder chests on islands.

Like I said though, could be complete RNG.
