Move sunken ships to another server.

  • What the title says. If your ship has sunk, a Mermaid will respawn it... but on another server, taking you there, poetic message and all.

Easy fix for spawn camping, griefing, and continuous harrassment.

(technically only medium-easy to implement, but most of the systems should be in place)

  • Either this, or spawn the ship on the opposite side of the map. Having to fight the same ship every 5 minutes ruins the game.

  • it doesnt ruin it per se, but it adds nothing to it, except more tedium.

being “removd from game” in the world where you sank is a grewt boost to immersion, as well.

  • It's not really a bad idea but come on... If my ship sank, I want to take my revenge or catch back my chests !

  • It'll also make contesting forts really, really hard.

Can you imagine how frustrated people will be if they clear a fort only to have somebody rock up and sink them, with no ability to get back and fight for their loot?

  • @thygrrr you may think it's an easy fix, but there are some questions that need answering first.

On a Galleon or 2 man Sloop, what happens to the crew members that are still alive on the first server? Do they get plucked from the server, look at a loading screen, and then drop into the next one? When does this happen? As soon as the ship sinks, or as soon as someone on that crew talks to the mermaid? Can some random crew mate transport me to another server just before I hand in that big Captain's Chest?

    Answer these questions, please.

  • I would also like to know 4 days in a row now we’ve gotten skull fort killed all attackers just to have them respawn over and over 15 times 1 ship is a bit over kill they never had a shot but kept pursuing knowing we’d eventually run out of materials and they would just refresh the key ended up despawning

  • @thygrrr a dit dans Move sunken ships to another server. :

I think that might be a little too extreme a solution imo. It's fair to let people a chance to come back and reclaim their stolen loot for instance.

  • I don't like this idea as well. I want to take my revenge on the crew who sunk my ship.
I like the idea of increased / increasing spawn distances more!
So you can break contact for longer periods of time so you can either continue on the fort or escape in another unexpected direction, which is pretty hard if you respawn and immediately see the enemy ship again on the horizon.

I don't think that can be implemented at all. You'd have to do another matchmaking and you know how long that can take. So you want people to go to the mermaid and then get a loading screen? Then you can just as well throw them back to the main menu.

No, easy fixes are to have ships spawn as far away as possible from where they sunk and have there be a timeout until they respawn. You shouldn't instantly get a new ship. There should be a severe punishment for not taking care of your ship. Like either a five minute pause (the crew can do outpost stuff in the mean time) until you get a new ship or a monetary fee (10 % of your current gold for each respawn).

  • sry for my bad english... but i think that when you sink a ship the materials from that ship should float so that you can restock or make barrels of materials spawn idk...

  • @x1-two But there ALREADY are server transfers. It happens a lot to me; whenever servers get "merged", basically one crew is transferred to another.

The matchmaking is pretty fast, too. We're talking about stuff that happens after a crew dies / loses their ship. They're most likely on the ferry of the damned.

  • @skunkbrand77 That's a good thought as well, but it's tedious and rarely enough.

  • It wouldn't be fair at all. If you are given the chance to take someone's treasure, they should also be given the chance to take it back. It can't be a one way thing beause it would be far too unfair.

  • I like the idea, but its really extreme :) As people mention, you should have a chance to get your loot back :)
Maybe if you died to the same ship more than once, you would spawn farther and farther away? :) Maybe an idea? :)

  • @ersatz-nihilist Well if you die, you have to face the consequences.

See it as some kind of ... Death Toll. :]

  • @thygrrr I don't think server merges even exist. It's more likely that your session stays the way it is and other people join through matchmaking, not that two sessions become one. How would it work if one player is still alive and the other three are dead? You can't account for all that would have to happen for a seemless server merge. That fort key you just stole? Well, too bad for the other crew, that's now in a new server. The loot you wanted to get with your fort key? Sorry, in this server the loot exists in a different fort because that is active. It doesn't work. There are no server merges, only servers and people joining and leaving the session through matchmaking and invites.

  • @thygrrr I think if you're sunk twice within a certain amount of time it should force you to a new server.

After all, if a crew just lost their loot it's only fair they get a chance to fight for it again.

  • @thygrrr if my ship got sank and they stole my chests i would be fuming at not getting the chance to hunt the other crew and get them back.

This is why I feel putting you on the other side of the map or a new server would never catch on.

  • @x1-two i frequently get server merges. they show a few lines of prose on the screen and the game pauses for a few seconds. everyone in the crew sees them at the same time.

they have become more seldom with more players playing.
