How does Prox chat work?

  • Turning my volume for Prox Chat to 0 does what? I cannot hear anyone, but they can hear me?

At what point does Prox chat (and the upper left corner text chatting) kick in? How close to other players?

The "Chat" feature, is that just chatting with players you are matchmade with?

Just trying to understand how this system works so I can understand how to use it. I don't want to turn down Prox chat to 0 so I don't have to hear other crews, but I also don't want the disadvantage of them being able to hear me and my crew planning our strat, but I cannot hear them.

EDIT: feel free to direct me to a link with an explanation if there is one.

  • Turning push to talk on will prevent others from hearing you until you push the selected bottom.

The way it works is people near you can hear you speak and you can hear them, if they are on xbox and in a party team then they cannot hear you and you cannot hear them xbox party chat kinda breaks proximity chat...

    This makes sense!

  • There is zero reason to turn down proximity chat. All it does is let you hear other crews, which is an inherent advantage. I don't know the ranges, but crew chat is the only thing you should mess with, since the whole push-to-talk system and settings are broken in the game, and require resetting every time you launch.

I play with my 8 year old. That's a pretty big reason. I have been called some pretty nasty things while playing...and I don't grief anyone. Some people are jerks.

  • It works over the M$ network...if I am correct.

And one does not understand the Microsoft network, one has to live with it.

Turning down proximity chat doesn't turn down your transmission volume, it turns down the volume on enemies who are around you. Your voice can still be heard by other people when proximity chat is all the way down, you just can't hear them when they're nearby.

I understand that, Thank you for your help! You said there is "Zero Reason to turn down proximity chat."

I was giving you my reason.

  • @roastincoffee How dare you let an underage kid play a teen rated game lol

IKR! It's just too fun to let him miss. I just want to control what he hears for a little while longer. We are inching closer to the dinner-time tales of what he heard on the bus....

  • That push to talk button is a must, since we play with discord or sometimes teamspeak, people hear you double if you dont have it on.

And I have proximity chat on 0...allways...there is NO reason for me to listen to those people either complaining or insulting. I can talk to others and tell them "good job" or whatever when we meet after death...but thats it.
