There's no icon or arrow or indicator if I get separated from my friend(s) on the island as to where are they, what direction should i go to find them.
Can't find my friends on the island, no indicator
@spoo-here That is correct, there is none.
I don't think it's ever been planned tbh. The idea is to use communication / work together. You have been given a compass and there are various landmarks on the island (not just used for treasure map riddles).
As intended. You find them through communication. Give directions with compass and describe what is around you.
1: Look at the map BEFORE your feet hit dirt and remember where your boat is in relation to the island.
2: If you get lost walk to any shore, look out to sea an read your compass heading aloud to a crewmate, & hold out your lantern as you wait for them to save you.
Or for you to rescue a silly crewmate, of course.I hope this reduces your navigation difficulties.
Don't feel sad, we'll all get lost on even a tiny island, but SoT does reward basic navigation skills.A RARE skill required for a videogame, no?
@spoo-here don't take it personal, but you cant handle a damn compass?
okay here is the deal... Jump from the Island, looks with the compass where the ship is, when you got lost, just run to the ship....
BE A PIRATE!
I LOVE the fact that when you lose sight of your friends you also lose the hovering gamertag. It was jarring at first, as I've got so used to video game shortcuts, but as soon as I realised the intention I was sold. The game actually teaches you the real-world skill of navigating and communicating position using only landmarks and a compass! And it's another part of what makes this game unique - and so, so great!!
Non-discrete methods:
- Fire your gun in the air.
- If the Island has cannons, fire that into the air.
- Hold your lantern up, and blink it on/off.
- Set off a gunpowder barrel if you have a spare one handy.
- Assign each of the lanterns on the front of the ship to a crewmate. Turn it on when you head to the island. Turn it off when you get back & are ready to leave.
Discrete methods:
- Communicate. Even quick chat can be surprisingly versatile if you're holding certain tools.
- Face the closest shore, and read the compass.
- If you have line of sight to someone who is looking for you, point your spyglass or eye of reach at them. They will see a glint of light where you are standing.
- Play music. Unlike cannons (and potentially, guns), instruments can't be overheard by neighboring islands and/or passing ships
- Use your shovel every 10-20 paces to leave a trail. (Honestly couldn't tell you how long that trail will be, as I don't know how many dig spots the game keeps track of)
- If you're consistently having difficulty locating one another & completing tasks solo, don't split up.
@spoo-here Use the compass and points of interest to figure out where you all are in relation to each other.
@spoo-here The best way to find someone is sound believe it or not, get the person to fire a gun and go towards where the sound came from, it shouldn't take more than two or three shots to find them on most islands
