Sloop Solo Play is awesome! My tips for what they're are worth.

  • I'm an ok player, not great at all. I did the sloop today and cleaned up. To play solo sloop, be smart. I thought I would share my tactics for those who are hesitant to play solo.

    1. When doing a voyage, don't pull out that shovel until you check the area for ships. When your comfy, dig dig dig.

    2. Don't get greedy, go back immediately to the outpost you came from checking all the time for a ship docked and cash in small loads.

    3. Look for the skull in the sky. If it's lit up, most likely all Galleons are heading there, so get to your voyages, always looking for those "where did he come from" sloops.

    4. Visit shipwrecks all the time. I found 3 chests and a skull on 1 shipwreck.

    5. Most important point of all!!!! If you see another ship, even a sloop near where you want to go, turn away, even in the opposite direction. Go have a Corona on a small island somewhere until the boat is gone. Turning away from another boat is a universal message saying "I don't want to fight". If they see you aimed even close in their direction, they will come!

Frequent quick hauls and taking your time is the key. Don't worry if you haven't put that first shovel in if your ship is empty and your about to be engaged in battle. Use that opportunity to practice your PVP skills.

My haul today was 24 chests and 2 skulls. I only had 1 sloop battle that I eventually won, but I did lose 2 chests in the exchange.

Finally, just have fun with the game. Don't get too serious. If a big Galleon comes up on you, stand in view and wave. If your sunk, remember, none of those people were hugged as a child, so you still win!

Maybe i'm full of c**p, but it worked for me. Enjoy the game folks!

  • @bustarbox There you are! Probably the only other person besides me who enjoys playing the game solo. Fistbumb

  • @bustarbox A good summary, this is pretty much what I do when I am on by myself or not in a chatty mood. Last night I was on a Galleon and had a crew of 4 which was great too. These tips are good and yeah other things I do is hide a gun barrel in the crows nest cause if I come up against a Galleon, one gun barrel does a nice job of their hull if you manage to get on board and some clown shoots you hitting the barrel. :) They'll focus more on repairing their ship giving you a chance to respawn on your ship and sail away. In 2 cases that barrel sunk their ship so I actually won, but when I engage its only when I have nothing on my ship to be stolen.

    and me

  • nice advice and i can say the waving at galleons from the sloop works with me. if im on a galleon and you are on a sloop i will never shoot you first, especially if you are being friendly.

  • Nice to see a thread of people enjoying solo

    wipes tear from eye

  • I haven't managed to convince any friends to join me, so I've only been doing solo sloop as well. I've really enjoyed it, especially like the OP said when all the other ships are busy with the skelly fort.

I did try to solo a fort myself a few days ago. Spent well over an hour picking off waves only to have a couple galleons sail up on me. In terms of gold per hour, not worth it, but an interesting adventure.

  • @boost-king

    Me too.

I also enjoy duos. The sloop is just great. Also if there's more than 1 chest on the island youre working on, hide them nearby your ship in bushes and only load them all up as you're ready to leave. Smooth seas.

  • I'm having the best time with this game, solo and on a Galleon crew. I managed to collect over 140,000 coins, so I got my slick paint job and Trident sails rocking on the sloop.

  • Great tips! I too love to solo. I have had so much fun, just sailing around and running quests. I'm only around 30k gold and have not bought a single item, other than hair and a beard. Can't wait to make enough to update my sloop with a flashy new paint job and buy some much needed weapons.

  • Solo is hard at times, but super fun!

    We are all bretheren. #SoloSloopLife

  • I've been playing a lot of solo too and it's really fun. I use most of your tactics as well and i'm getting more than enough treasure out of it.

  • The best thing is that its so easy to play smart, solo is fun and i find it rewarding, unfortunately waving or turning away rarely works for me, i either get chased outpost to outpost or killed while waving

  • I'm loving solo play. It's hard at times but very fun, and oh so satisfying when you beat a crew.

  • Nice tips! If I may add some:

    • If you're being chased by a galleon, sail against the wind, the galleon is slower that way
    • Turn all your lights off (everyone probably knows this by now but it doesn't hurt)
    • When parking at an island/ship wreck, raise sails and then raise anchor (if the water is calm), that way you're always ready to leave, by quickly dropping the sails. Also you can angle your ship and your sails to the wind. DO all this if you're gonna pick up a chest of sorrows, as you'll probably need to bail water as soon as you get it on board.
    • You can use your ship as a decoy, while you deliver chests or board the enemy with a gunpowder barrel and then use the mermaid to get back.
    • If a ship approaches while you're digging treasures, hide your chests on the island and come back later, they stay there until you log out/change instance (as far as I know)
  • All about that sloop life!

I enjoy all 3 modes. I honestly have a hard time on start up wondering which to select lol.
But recently I have been leaning more towards solo, as I do enjoy doing whatever I want to do. And I can take my time. It also offers a nice unique role-playing experience. My telescope becomes my best friend in solo. Constantly got my eyes on the horizon, even when on land. Have yet to have any close contact with a ship in solo, that I didn't initiate myself.

There are 5 other ships maximum at any one time per server. The map is very large. Keeping away from them is relatively easy. Most of the time for me, it's others that turn away before I start to. Only the galleons do I really need to be wary of. I honestly do not see how anybody could find this a problem. This IS a pve mode I am basically doing. The only difference here is I have to work at it myself (don't sail near ships, scope horizon out a lot, be wary of ships behind tall islands & outposts e.t.c.). And it's brilliant. The lonely feeling on the ocean actually calms my soul. :)

  • I do quite a bit of solo and I do most of the above apart from turning away from a port when you see a parked ship. I approach slowly, using text and voice chat to say "hello" and that "I'm just here to drop a chest is that's okay?". More often than not people leave me be. If they start to fire at me, then I lower my sails and sail on. I tend to do this more with sloops than galleons but sometimes i will do the same with galleons and often they will leave me be too. Also, when approaching slowly (but directly) a lot of ships will leave as you approach, in which case you know it's probably safe to park and unload.

One other tip for solo players is if you are doing Order of Lost Souls voyages, then parking close to the beach (if it's a small island) and killing the skeletons with cannon fire is by far the quickest way of doing it. It also means you can keep reloading your gun too, to pick off the ones you can't hit with the cannon.
