Sloop inferiority

  • You are completely right, two cannons would mend some of the issues. Does nothing for a solo players though, but eh.

Definitely shouldn't be faster than a galleon though. Why on earth should it have a smaller hitbox, better turning, easier to control by having less sails etc AND be quicker? Come on dude, lets be real.

Then again, cannon in crows nest. Rofl dude.

  • Sloop pro #2, you have to walk a total of 2 feet to bail water :)

For my non-U.S. brethren (may God have mercy on your soul): less than 1 meter.

  • If you added another player to the sloop it would literally never sink. I was able to single handed out bail five holes in the bottom of my ship keep it afloat while my friend sailed us away. The sloop is inherently designed for a smaller crew and will always be at a disadvantage. Ideally it is for more advanced players.

Galleon could have sixteen cannons, but it doesn't mean diddly if they don't have players that can aim those, and manage sails appropriately. The sloop can run circles on the Galleon and actually out sail it when sailing into the wind. I would prefer they add another ship like a Schooner for three man crews so we're not forced to drive the cumbersome Galleon.

  • @silliestpenny83 with a sloop yesterday me and my crew mate destroyied two galleons and two sloops while fighting over a skeleton fort and won before selling all the treasure. Sloops are not inferior. There are upsides and downsides to both ships. You just have to know what your doing.

  • A galleon requires 3 competent crew members to operate effeciently. A Sloop requires 1. It is much, much easier to get one competent crewman than it is 3, and easier still if you are that competent crewman.

You have to consider that a galleon takes more people to sail. That's more people giving their time.

    Some sloop advantages you missed:
The sloop is shallower on the bow than the galleon. It can sail closer to land without taking damage, and i think there are one or two shoals in the game, though i've not seen any yet. Think I saw them in a video though.
The sloop stands out less on the horizon
The sloop is much easier to bail and detect water buildup.
The sloop is a smaller target, also making it easier to hide.
The sloop can decelerate for manouvres much quicker.
The sloop is faster against the wind than the galleon, giving it a guaranteed escape route at all times.

But the main point to consider is the first. Finding 3-4 competent crew and getting them all together in a gaming session is difficult. Each player not helping the ship function can pretty much be ignored by a good sloop. wide eye of reach shots and poor ramming attempts aren't really a threat. People waiting for a shot to not line up are no threat. And if you are a 1-2 man crew against a 3-4 man crew of competent players, you can't really complain about disadvantage, since 4 people are always going to have the advantage of numbers over 2.

  • Sloops in the right hands can outplay any galleon anywhere. 180 turns, the ability to go against the wind then into it to have a better intercept course. The only time a galleon leaves u in the dust is when all 3 sails are in the wind.

Here is a fun story: I joined a random sloop with some guy who was 100% new at least thats what he said and how he played. we rolled up on guys who had completed the fort. chased them in there galley, sank them, got about half the loot from the wreck before they showed up. turned it all in while they were chasing us. AND while they chased us a kraken showed up to stop them l**o XD the kraken sank them, so we found them again and rammed there boat with our sloop while playing music. and i accidently sat in there hull and got 5 kills imbetween tunes

  • I do think there needs to be a frigate, two masts, the medium sized ship, and can hold a max of 3 players. A sloop with 3 does sound like it’d be OPed. A frigate could have 2 cannons on each side

  • I usually use Sloop with my friend and we don't feel in disadvantage vs a Galleon,we always try to bring them near some rocks and islands so we can get advantage from out higher manouvrability.
In one game we sinked 3 Galleons cause they got stuck on rocks/islands,use your PROS vs Galleons CONS...

  • Sloops have their advantages, you just have to capitalize on them. They are faster going into the wind, are more maneuverable, and can sail in shallower water. I have added a video of myself and a friend taking out a Galleon in a sloop, and this was an encounter where I actually died trying to board. I find that the biggest problem with people going up against Galleons is not hitting them below the water line, thus not causing them to take on water. I can recall many times in a Galleon going head to head with it, only to have no water come on because they are nailing the second level. Watch my vid, look at the positioning and where I hit the ship. Happy pirating matey!
