Force Game Chat

  • I've come across faaaaar to many crews that you simply can't interact with because A - they can't talk to you, and B - they can't hear you. This is because they are in party chat.

I'm not sure how possible it is for the game to do this, but forcing game chat would greatly improve the average player interaction. It's gotten to the point where the majority of crews I come across may as well be AI.

  • @floppy-peener I think Call of Duty used to have a feature like this (at least in the older games) where in order to play Search & Destroy you couldn't be in party chat.

  • @acrobatcat PC players will keep using discord.

  • Im on pc, and i cant use the voice chat. Every time a try to conect my wireless headset, the sound of the game crushes. It works antil i select the ship, them nothing. Its a bit boring play widowt the chat.

  • @happyalbe lol exactly PC player here and always in a party chat of some sorts with a push to talk button assigned for game chat. #whynotboth

  • @thecanisdirus spam that hashtag, please.. :P

    Or Teamspeak.

  • @happyalbe True, but at least they will still hear the other crews, and switching between talking in discord and the game is literally one button while in game, so not as big of a problem imo.

  • @floppy-peener No. Discord is great, in-game chat is bad and sounds terrible. I dont mind using it to contact other crews, but for a 4 hour play session i'd go crazy.

  • @sir-rhavi i really had no issues with game chat, tbh.

  • I would really like it if we could hear people who are in party chat and they can hear us too.... Xbox Party chat is rubbish and makes communication in an open world hard.... We use discord and can still use in game via push to talk to interact with people why can't xbox party chat work the same.

  • @thecanisdirus I can't figure out where is the option to set PTT in party chat on xbox app, so i don't use it at all.

i have no issues with it like i have no issues with using a public bathroom's toilet paper: I don't mind it, I love that it exists, I also don't want to use it every time.

  • well the first thing they'd have to do is force all players to have a microphone. I don't always have one available depending on when I'm playing. I can hear you, but I can't always talk back.

  • @sir-rhavi that's a completely other matter

  • If we were forced to use only one way of communicating in the game on the xbox it will drive more people away from the game.

  • @klikhizz Well at this point almost everyone has a mic, so not that big of a deal. And, you can still hear other crews, and respond non-verbally.

  • @dills-ghost Why? If that's the difference between playing and not playing those people probably won't be playing for long anyway.

  • @happyalbe said in Force Game Chat:

no it really isnt, one sounds like a public payphone, the other i can literally record music with.

  • Sadly, I use xbox live party chat when talking with my crew. Why? Because proximity chat seems god awful in its current state. I will have quite a lot of trouble hearing my crew and they constantly are breaking up, etc. While switching to party chat, everything is good and working just fine.

I would love to use in-game chat, but it needs to be improved before I can reliably use it.

  • @floppy-peener

It’s realy awkward sailing on a sloop with someone that doesn’t talk. Lol
A lot of games I play I don’t always talk but this game to me is just not the same. I feel compelled to talk to my ship mate/mates. Not to mention communication is key during battle.
That and I have made some good friends in this game but that wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t talk.

  • @bambam-bm I've heard a lot of people complain about it, but I myself haven't had any trouble. Sure, discord sounds marginally better, but nothing really noticeable. It begs the question of where the problem lies, the game's chat itself, or how it transports it?

  • @floppy-peener
I have tried the game chat a couple of times, and don't like it for a couple reasons:

    • The language of the other players, don't like hearing racial slurs, or foul words being used every other word.
    • Loud music being played.
    • And with such a diverse game, we have multiple languages playing this game, so I do not want to listen to someone else talk in a language that I do not understand.

I like the option to chose weather or not I use game chat.

  • @happyalbe said in Force Game Chat:

I use both, but with PTT for ingame voice.

  • @dills-ghost

As to all three of your points, I see how they call could be annoying, but I haven't encountered ANY examples of them, and I try to interact with just about every crew I run into.

Other solutions to this would be, if it's a person from another crew, simply avoid them, should be easy enough. If it's someone on your crew, you can individually mute them.

  • I use Discord with my friend.

Why would I use in-game chat?

Discord is more reliable and if someone gets disconnected we are still in voice-communication with them to know what is happening and to help if they have any issues.

  • @ghroznak Discord is notably different than party chat as you can still hear and talk in game seamlessly. I'm focusing this more on party chat, as you can't hear anyone in game, and need to switch back to game chat to hear or talk to anyone, removing much of the interaction.

  • We use Discord with everything else turned off.

Reason? We are all old men and as such make old men jokes about old men stuff. I doubt any of you youngsters would appreciate it. Plus we usually sing badly at each other. And don't get me started on the abuse...

  • @lord-trunky Frankly I think my friends and I would find it hilarious if we came across that
