PC and Xbox Login issue

  • I have two Xbox Ones and a Windows 10 PC. I have one Xbox One set to Home, the other I need to be logged in on. Essentially, a "standard shared live account" setup.

Over the weekend, my Son, logged in on the HOME xbox was able to launch SoT fine. I was able to launch SoT on my Windows 10 PC fine. My daughter however, who was logged in with HER Xbox Gamertag on the xbox that I need to be logged in on as well, was not able to as each time she attempted to launch kept getting a "you're already logged in elsewhere. Do you want to sign in here instead" (or something close).

What is happening here? Why does SoT look only at the account attempting to launch SoT but also the additional accounts signed in?

  • Wow, @MaarekStele your post was deleted MID read. I wasn't even finished with it when it disappeared.

  • @roastincoffee That is correct. The HOME loophole is the only way to share the game across two gamertags. Otherwise you need GamePass for a third account or purchase another copy of the game on another account.

Sorry, I misinterpreted the way you were trying to play. And I was completely wrong about a HOME fix, sorry.

This is exactly how I do it when playing on TWO XB1s and it works well. However, I was also trying to play on my PC (essentially running the game on XB1-1, XB1-2, and PC...

I also struggle to see this being called a "loophole" as Microsoft said pretty explicitly that this is a perfectly acceptable sharing solution. They even suggest it in their support forums.

Oh, I didn't know it was intentional. I mostly play on PC, so PC games are required to purchase their own copies.

On a PC and using the Xbox game App, you are required to be logged in as well, so they detect your login at all times. I don't believe there's a HOME option on PC since people might find a way to exploit it.

Edit: Purchased account can be set to HOME on xbox, Play as another account on Xbox and PC can play as well. That's the best setup for xbox/pc combo.

    Not a loophole. It's a feature.

Totally agree. "Loophole" has a negative connotation. Microsoft suggests the home option to share an XBL account.

It appears the only way I am going to be able to play with my kids is to actually purchase the PC version. Which I don't think I can even do since its CROSS PLAY and Play Anywhere.

Right. I even got on with their chat years ago to confirm that I wouldn't get banned for doing it, and they told me it was a feature and intended to be used that way.

Since there's a monthly multiplayer fee, I can see now that it's a feature.

Not sure I know what you are referring to. What monthly fee?

How long to you plan on playing? You can get GamePass and your kids might move on after. $120 vs $60 and $10/monthly fee(GamePass) might be cheaper if you don't plan on playing for a long time.

Xbox consoles require Live Gold subscription. PCs do not require a paid subscription to play the game and only require the standard Live account for the use of the gamer tag in Win10.

  • Update on this: I contacted Rare with this issue and after a couple days they told me to contact Xbox Support.

So I guess this is an Xbox Issue?

All I want to do is play Sea of Thieves on my PC with my kids while they are on Xbox One consoles. Seems this is not really possible so long as I have to be logged in on one of the consoles as well as the PC.

  • @roastincoffee you can gameshare just beetween 2 accounts and no 3 or more. If you are planning to play more than 2 of you all on different accounts you will need two copy of the game

  • @roastincoffee you can only play on 2 devices at a time...

You need to buy another copy for your daughters account.

    Dad: plays PC
    Son: plays on gameshare Xbox
    Daughter: plays on her account

Does this work with two PCs as well or does it have to be PC and Xbox?

If it wotked on two PCs as well, I‘d love to try to play with my daughter as well. 😀
