Militarised Outpost (Essentially a guns free zone)

  • I feel 2 or 3 of the outposts should be considered a no fire zone(spread a fair distance apart, corners of the map even). There are no mission givers at these outposts, they would provide a great avenue for social interactions. Shops can still be there and so will a new addition "a mysterious stranger" (maybe the one from the inn) who will rotate randomly through those islands every Friday (cough cough xur) and he could provide unique legendary exclusive items. this gives players a reason to go out and search for him/her and forced into the social spaces.

I think this would help get players into a bit more of a social mindset rather than kill kill kill kill kill kill (maybe loot) kill kill kill kill

  • No. This has had posts made about it many times. There will be no safe zones. Everyone please stop asking for it.

  • read the thread, there is no gameplay gain from this idea of a social space, no mission givers. meaning the safe zone is not somewhere for sloops to hand in quests, it is a gathering hub for players.

you do realise the pirate fantasy the game is emulating had these very similar things. How can real-life s**m and villainy pirates be OK with "safe zones" but yet gamers are so overt to even the possibility of a social space.

  • Considering there is only 6 ships per server I don't think socializing is really high on Rare's agenda, it's also not high on mine.

  • @vavume I vehemently disagree.

It was very clear in the development of this game that social interactivity was to play a large role. from being advertised as streamers paradise, to dev diaries every other week with the team having races or doing silly social things in game. to the overall reaction and engagement the community had in the alpha stages of the game.

to think Rare wants to shephard a community who just wants to troll everyone as their main player base would be extremely misguided, name one other game where that has worked?

  • How many times do you people need to hear "No safezones" before you comprehend it?

  • It was a lovely idea in the alphas and betas. But like everything in life, its time to grow up, time to mature, time to evolve. It is very very VERY apparent that a subset of players have joined with a poor gamer culture (its basically kids).

Treating your community with respect is a much better premise than "Sticking to your guns" cause thats what they initially said, the premise clearly isn't working, there is a large portion of the community who aren't enjoying their experiences, its becoming extremely apparent.

Why don't you want other people to have an experience they enjoy? that's the question i am most curious about? how does it affect you that someone else who doesn't want to be trolled as they spawn may actually be able to have fun?

  • @mcdougle99 I personally don't think safe zones will work. For starters, it is rare for me to even come across ships that camp at outposts and not to mention pirates aren't necessarily "friendly". I've let some ships go, especially when I just want to get to my destination, but I don't think safe zones are the way to go.

  • @Kakashi-Lord we have literally spent the whole evening being hound by one sloop of french guys who literally haven't stopped hounding us the whole game, purely cause they spawn close and chase us constantly, even though they constantly lose the battle,

So yes i disagree, its very much needed

  • I'm not sure about a gun free zone, but the idea of a militarized outpost with guards appeals to me. Even a pirate town wouldn't want people shooting each other in the streets or in their stores.

You can still try and jump players in an outpost if you run into them but if you have your weapon drawn you are now a target for the NPCs.

It adds a little danger to trying to get a chest from someone as they turn it in.

  • I don't see this as being needed.

If folks want to RP playing music and drinking grog it can happen anywhere. You don't need to be safe from people playing the game as it was intended for it to happen.

  • People want safe zones so people keep suggesting them. We don't care that Rare doesn't want them, we still do, and that's why we come up with new ideas to maybe have a comprimise. The game is super shallow now, and social interaction and side activities would make the game more fun for everyone

    GTA:5

  • A social space is any outpost's pub when you don't have anything to lose on your ship.

  • @mcdougle99
See I think the problem itself is the spawning too close part.
The issue with safe zones is some crews will constantly use them as a safe haven and abuse them, unhinging a major part of the game.

I sympathise with your problem. But a proper fix for you issue, which I have had before myself while being at a skull fort, is the spawning only being one island away. It really needs to spawn way further to allow for one team to run. It’s more punishing for those who attack and fail and more rewarding for those who win.

Mainly this lack of players would make safe zones waste of time. Once pop grows then they become more important but safe zones be more arm gaurds. But this game needs about 20 more ships.

See lack ships make pvp focus on one ship the hole time.

  • @strykertheelite
I agree. More ships would be good but at the same time it has helped me with skull forts haha

  • @mcdougle99 I don't think this would be a good idea. all you would have to do is sail to the corner of the map if you are getting chased with loot. Then your safe you just sit there n wait.

Said social interaction has to do with you and your crew and the team play involved with the aspects of your ship, not other ships. If another ship is "friendly", so be it, but the social interaction part of this game revolves around you and your crew.

  • @dewradley GTAV is a very very poor example, A) it has safe zones, you can play in a passive mode B) it has one of the most toxic cheater inhabited communities of all time

  • @soopavillain420 Article 6 of the pirate code (as posted by Rare) states otherwise, basically it says respect other players. PvP is a fine addition, being harrassed and trolled isn't fun and well its getting to me now. FarCry 5 releases today why don't i just play that and never come back to Sea of Thieves? it has an open world co-op party social interactions and i won't be harassed and griefed?

I wonder how many players are feeling this way now also?

  • @m3rlin324 How is it any different to griefers who will wait at an outpost for a non descript amount of time just to grief?

See this is the issue people are missing, the game is absolutely setup to support griefers, and that isn't a community you want to support. Think about it, their sole objective is to ruin the fun of others. These people will destroy the game over time for anyone else. I am sorry if you and others in this forum are part of the grief squad but you need to realise destroying the player base for your own amusement is retroactively destroying any future potential of fun for yourself down the road.

A game where no one plays it except 3 other teams of griefers will essentially be a dead game. It saddens me that people want that rather to build a community, support people and just have a laugh and have fun. Once again no one is against the Idea of PvP, but we are against being spawn trolled. being resource bombed, being harassed by the same sloop of 2. Why play a game that is allowing people to ruin my good time where i can play one that supports the community instead. ie: Fortnite, turned off teamkilling early because people were griefing, that game is now at 40+ mil players and a scary amount of cash flow coming in every day. But hey lets support the guys who want to grief ;)

  • @mcdougle99 they said name one game where a community full of trolling has worked. Not a good example? Gta 5 was incredibly successful and still brings in money for rockstar. So the troll community has worked for that game yet it isn't a good example of a troll community working in video games? You don't make any sense.
