Where are the side quests?

  • Ahoy,
Adding myself to the list of complains? But I am so disappointing by this game, just laughing at it. To some degree Rare looks like it did it intentionally.
I do like it, looking forward to playing it. But just laughing at the lack of content. At this point everyone knows you have to grind your way to LvL50 on all factions for end content. And there is no side quests. Any of Them. Games are not what they used to be, lacking content further and further. Cant believe I lived to see a game at lunch with ZERO side things to do.
Though Alpha and Beta was only a portion of the game? xD
I played from Alpha stages and pre ordered the game and I do feel scammed. Its fine, at least I am can acknowledge that, rather then trying to defend the game so I wont feel bad about being fooled and scammed.
I just gonna retread from this game as community, unhealthy way to be in a scammed environment.
Of course there is content coming and its probably going to be behind pay walls. Which I wont jump getting it any time soon.
There should be plenty of free content in order for me to change my mind.
Only reason I care and hope for this game is because its unique, the moment there is something similar. Bye Rare, that what community you shaped. In my opinion.

  • Btw. Rare never said the Beta was only 20% of the full game, gamers just assumed that number.

Rare said „its more to come“ thats it.

Everything else was just misinformed hype from fans (they now rage lol)

  • True, have not said they did. But no game had a beta with the full content of the game. or 80% of it?
Yes misinformed, they just did not want to clarify stuff. They just let fans imagination do the job. They wanted and needed the hype.
I like the game and I am going to play it. Its fine, its different I can see and understand their approach, its kool. But I am going to have a passive outlook on it.
No matter what you do, your only grind is the faction. Forts, voyages, PVP. All you do is tided to main story.
No side things at all. Can you please stop justify that thats ok? xD Cause its obliviously not.

  • I think the merchant quests should be side quests, or better can be done along side the treasure hunting quests. its annoying i cant look for treasure on same island as i need to collect chickens on or pigs on.

  • @mrangrypizza The WHAT quests? I think you missed the m**o where you were supposed to use your imagination in stead of those things. What were you thinking.. /sarcasm
    :)

Edit: I am yet to find a main quest as well though.

  • @lostscotman Definitely up for it, merchant voyages arent smooth at all. I tried to start on collect the cages - cancel and start a different voyages. Have them two complete and when I get my voyages complete I can start the merchant quest. Which is a risk as its hard to predict what good you need. Its irritating anyways, end up just play it normally.
@KgmsHylian xD yay those things are in there, like main storyline, reward system and class choice. From captain to sails/repair man. Then the reward is in adventure (voyages) the more you play the more challenging (interesting?) they become. We had this guy with voyages 20+ and I kind saw what I get for playing it. Dunno, probably me just justifying myself for wasting time on it.

I can't see them as a main quest and I am 20+ rep as well. More challenging later? Yes. Less rewarding? Also yes. More interesting? Sadly no. More frustrating most likely..
I would call them "stuff to pass the time with, when not fighting other ships". They are absolutely repetative, so I couldn't see them as a main quest anyhow. For me a quest like that progresses through with a storyline to tell.

If you can find a list of what islands have what, the merchent quests become more fun. Not super fun, but not hear rippingly annoying.

That said, I'm not upgrading my tier with merchants as I'm afraid they'll just get more irksome as time goes by.

Also having to feed the pigs is super annoying.

  • @mrangrypizza i dont think you in the position to say what I have to believe buddy.

  • @mrangrypizza also do i still fail to understand what the devs had to explain. play the 14 trial and you see everything there is to know.

What do you guys need more, honestly? Some hand written letter from the executive producer?!

  • And...another one of those threads.

Solution: find a crew, join an open discord from your country and meet dozens of other players. When I play I'm busy 99% of the time. Sails, canons, carrying treasure, watching the horizon, repairing...I cant even make a toiletrun when I play.

And the heck do I worry about sidequests.

  • @mrangrypizza said in Where are the side quests?:

But no game had a beta with the full content of the game. or 80% of it?

    What planet you came from???

As for side quests - there are shipwrecks, bottles on the beaches, lost cages on the islands and the biggest side quest of them all - other players.

  • @Hrenli, @Kustho those arent side quests. Just different ways to complete your main story. As I understand, its to become a Pirate legend. And there is no a story line because you are the story. Your write your own story by the things you mentioned there. Which is fine for me, I can see that work and I do like it.
Did you play Witcher? That game has side quests inside a side quest. A side quest that has a background story behind and make you feel that you part of something.
Beside the mysterious guy in tavern that tells you comeback every 5 levels, there is no one else. (the most boring mystery). Do you understand that the reason behind this, is that they did not invest in an author. They did not spend money to create a story. But charge like there is one!
I want developers to sweat, to be creative. I dont know what they need, maybe because I am not a developer. And probably the reason I pay to get myself entertained. This is not about game being bad, its a good and unique game. Its about lazy developers that need a kick in a butt. And people like you make their life easy. I just dont want this to be a message to other developers, that they can think they can get away so easy.

How about a guy on random island looking for something he lost at the bottom of the sea? or a tribe of four-five people trying to left skeleton curse? Additional to your 2-3hours gameplay x50 game

  • where are the main quests?😂

  • @mrangrypizza said in Where are the side quests?:

    Did you play Witcher?

I did. The best game ever. SoT is different though. And I like it being different.

Do you understand that the reason behind this, is that they did not invest in an author.

My understanding is that they deliberately chosen not to invest in an author. And I actually don't mind. This is sandbox in its purest form. Quite bold move for the modern day industry, but I like it.

Edit: actually, about investments and authors. Have you tried to read what text is available? Descriptions of items etc? They actually did invest in an author who did quite good job. It's just not wrapped in a solid story.

  • I guess you did not follow the game's development. Rare did not promise us anything beyond what we have.

Sorry you don't like the game. Many of us love it. It may not be for you.

  • @hrenli @Kustho
What about factions having price varying between them. Coz they fight for a better deal? Like you can make different amount of gold for turning stuff in then on a different outpost.
Or with the with random guy who lost something at the bottom of the sea. Be it a valuable piece that you need to return, or just bring it to an outpost and sell it because pirate and choices. ?
Anyways, the more I try write the worse I do. Coz oblivious have no word on it. I just want people to understand that the game lacks content.

  • @mrangrypizza What about craftable ships of player design, player housing, single player and/or private server mode? You are talking about completely different game.

  • @hrenli Yes thats a different game, probably their roadmap for 10years in that your sentence of yours. Minecraft - Story Mode? (havent played that)
According to their developer videos - Pirate legends have more ship options which sounds good to me. I know some of proposal sound ridiculous, lack understanding of how this game works.

Edit: Forgot about all the riddles text, probably they spend all their cash on author/scripting on all those riddles.

  • @mrangrypizza said in Where are the side quests?:

@hrenli Yes thats a different game, probably their roadmap for 10years in that your sentence of yours.

No. Half of what I said will kill half of what is now in the game. And vice versa.

  • You didnt realize message in bottles, journals, ship wrecks, strogholds and exploring random islands are all side quests????

  • @kustho Sails don't have to be maintained that often unless you're spinning in a circle. Cannons don't have to be maintained unless you're fighting something. Carrying treasure is only from point A to Point B which is gained by doing the quests you say you don't have time to do, or maybe you just find it by visiting random islands, hard to say, watching the horizon? I mean, if you're doing the other things, you can't watch the horizon and if you are, what are you looking for at the docks, because if you're sailing with no heading, you're wasting your time. Repairing from what? The fights you are manning the cannons for?

None of the things you say take up 99% of your time, unless you're eating popcorn and your controller is all buttery/slipping out of your hands 98% of it.

  • @mrangrypizza thank youcause we dont have enough articles saying this. 🤨

  • @zanzikahn said in Where are the side quests?:

@mrangrypizza thank youcause we dont have enough articles saying this. 🤨

Apparently we don't. We should have way more so it will sink in finally, that the game does have issues. However fun it is to play now, it is shallow and issues should be addressed. Not just content-wise but basic features are missing as well (self-mic-indicator, reserve spot for friends in matchmaking, session reconnect in case of abrupt disconnection, anticheat/hack, etc) and the game is in RELEASED state.

  • @kgmshylian defenitly, probably gonna happen soon or later after a 2 hour treasure hunt solo with some chest getting disconnected. Its not enough that you can get raided, which is fine. Thats the nature of the game. Being disconnected and not able to join the previous session is a deal breaker.

PS. I think they tried to aim at battle royal mode? Similar to Pubg, you appear, gather supplies and try to win with you treasure. Lose? Do it again, I could compare the thrill when you sailing the seas which chest, especially alone.

  • @kgmshylian non of that is what the OPs post is about. This post is a rant on the lack of side quests. As I pointed out, there are actually a fair amount of “side quests”.. as for your concerns, there most certainly is an anti cheat in place, seeing a symbol depicting your mic usage is more of a quality of life thing that doesnt render the game unplayable in the least, and I agree private ships should be a thing(which will prob come sooner than later with proper criticism) but it’s not like you can’t join games with friends or ask pugs to politely leave to make room for friends.. Aside from fan hype, Rare has been pretty honest with what they are doing, whether people agree with the pace or direction is a different story.

  • @zanzikahn
Name please an activity that doesnt require you at the end to cash in your reward from factions? (For one I still get rewarded but not from factions) I am will jump straightway into the game and do it.

On top which we need those side quest is because I can predict the whole course of my gameplay for coming weeks. I know exactly how my quest is going to start - and end. The middle as you said varies, that what keeps me going. But thats about it

None of it, that's true. Lack of variaty is there still and relevant :) making excuses for basic features missing is bad though. Having mic indicator in a game 2018 is a basic feature, not quality of life. It's missing? Then the implementation of voicechat was incomplete. People should really stop making excuses for Rare not preparing the game properly for launch. And it absolutely doesn't matter if those features are COMING. They should have been there ALREADY. The game is advertised as released and not early access. 60 EUR price tag. But this debate is for other topics.

  • @kgmshylian seriously half the games out there don’t have mic indicators... that can’t seriously be that big a deal breaker for you. XD

  • @mrangrypizza uhm, why do we need side quests to fray away from faction rewards? Every single game I’ve played provided reputation with side quests. :/

  • @zanzikahn well whats wrong with that? Actually they have this reputation, and its part main story which makes it even worse. That this option in other game is a side quest..
You much hipster? This game is NOT unique. Its mix between battle royal mode and GTA online. Were you transport your loot from A to B, except there is no alerting other players in the middle of the screen. Just stumble into them "randomly". You join a session with X number of people, looking for loot until you stumble into other players. Its not a permanent death, but you do lose your loot (2hour of work which makes it risky) permanently.
The only thing unique about this game is the shell, the rest is just a mix match of other styles. You have player classes and skills, they just hidden for player to cooperate in between.
Best coop game? Did Rare heard about World of Warcraft?
The vanilla game, were 40+ (25 - after updates) people raid working together to defeat a boss? This is kindergarten comparing to WoW Coop.
Of course they have some additional content. I am just trying to voice out that the approach they took - build hype -disappoint-build hope-deliver content-act as hero. Is totally not ok, and game release shouldnt not be like this! A game release should keep you busy for couple of weeks, months. Not look for news and be on forums the next day.

The words they used specifically for each test patch was something along the lines of: "This does not represent the full game at launch."

But yes delusional fanboys/blind defenders were the ones who made up the 20-30% thing, and it was pretty obvious that wasn't going to be the case. Rare themselves stated that there'd only be three factions at launch and then were relatively ambiguous about Pirate Legend until the week before launch where it was mentioned that it's basically a fourth endgame faction with its own cosmetics and legendary voyages.

The final additions were basically the Merchant Alliance, Skeleton Forts, Ship cosmetics, and the (unfinished) Kraken. And Pirate Legend but no one has been able to even reach it yet.
