The gun doesn't fit in the theme of the game whatsoever since snipers didnt exist in those times. Also the gun is completely unreliable and useless since waves are tossing you around nonstop. The only players that can even remotely benefit from this gun, is PC players and even then its still trash. Give us bows or crossbows instead for far range combat. It should have similar projectile physics to cannon balls.
Remove Eye of Reach
@trenix90 I wish we did not have to play cross-play in the first place. Mouse and keyboard will win every time with an unlimited amount of bindings and third party background clients smh.
Actually, the musket was used quite frequently at the time of Pirates. It was a rifle like the Eye of Reach. Now the only major difference was that to the best of my knowledge Scopes did not exist.
I do think more weapons need to be added, like an Axe called the boarding axe for chopping hooks off of the nearby ship or ropes. Maybe a mace or hammer as well.

Muskets were not sniper rifles, not even the slightest. They were inaccurate and were completely replaced by pistols because of the potential of damaging your own ship.

So your two statements to me - One the original post and the Second your reply. Both state that rifles/muskets were inaccurate. The gun is unreliable and useless because it is inaccurate. So it fits perfectly based on the times and both arguments you are making.

I never said the eye of reach is inaccurate, just unreliable on a ship. The eye of reach is extremely accurate on land, where a musket wasn't ever. The eye of reach is not a musket. I wouldn't even suggest adding a musket, because pirates really didn't use them.
@trenix90 this actually comes up in the last Dev Q&A Alpha video. The idea was pitched and modeled, but Craig Duncan was like no I don't get it, then he went home and saw an episode of Black Sails where they literally did this. So when he came in the next day he gave it the greenlight.
So it is and it isn't something that could be, I mean you're fighting skeletons...besides eye can be quite good from an island or a fort shooting out.
@si7van The problem is that long range weapons with fast projectiles are useless on the ocean. So using it just for land is pretty lame. Didn't work for pirates when it came to muskets. not working in the game either. Just a useless weapon that we have, just cause. I rather use a pistol to snipe over this rifle honestly.
@trenix90 Let's face it, you seem to be someone who this game is not made for. Since you joined the forums a few weeks ago it seems like all you do is complain. Now you want them to remove one of the 3 weapons in the game? Then you will complain that there is no long-range weapon.
I am glad you are voicing your opinion, but almost 99% of everything you say is negative in some way. Maybe offer suggestions on how to improve the game if you want something changed. For example, "I think the Eye of Reach is too accurate." Maybe replace it with a less accurate Musket.

Oh cry me a river, get out of here with your drama. God forbid I criticize the game. I enjoy the game and still play it, but this gun is useless and pointless to have. This is coming from someone that snipes in all shooters. Seriously how many people even use this gun? I see almost nobody bothering with it. It's not even good as a side weapon.
Everyone when they start playing wants to use it, until they play longer than an hour and realize how useless it is. It's so unbelievably situational. Let's have a good set of balanced weapons, not some pointless placeholder.
@trenix90 to each their own, I mean I don't see a point in removing an option when they can leave it and expand per your idea. Given the horizontal progression aspect of all weapons, each has somewhat of a niche. I've certainly found it useful in situations over the other two.

Over many hours of PvP and PvE, this gun is pointless to me and has never been more useful than any other. As for the guy who said we should replace it with a less reliable musket, that's even more ridiculious. Being that there is a horizontal progression, let's not add weapons that are handicapping players.
I swear I see you on here every day complaining about something. Just relax and enjoy the game man.

So the forum is about just relaxing and enjoying the game, or is it to talk about how we can improve the game? Sorry that this is not another PvE server demand thread.

Did sentient skeletons exist in those times?
I checked my history (twice in fact) and found no mention of Privateers battling waves of Skeletons to get loot before being ganked by the Spanish. Also, bows...crossbows....what?
In a pirate game? They used closed quarters weapons, let's not turn this into dungeons and dragons.

Pirates used bows and crossbows because they were more reliable and accarate than muskets. Suggest you read into it. Also it's kind of funny how you mention skeletons didn't exist but freak out when I mention bows and crossbows should be added. Skeletons never existed so therefore everything must be fair game to add with that logic, right? What's next, machine gun?
Agreed that it doesn't belong in the game. I wish they'd never added it. I realize there is nothing realistic about SoT, but a sniper rifle sticks out like a sore thumb. The range and accuracy are far too good for a firearm remotely associated with pirates. You want to finagle a musket with a makeshift eye piece? Fine. I see the point in a longer range weapon than the pistol, but the EoR's range is WAY too far.

The eye of reach has its uses. ive killed alot of pirates sailing their ship using it. Line up the shot before you zoom in. Lead your target, just like with cannonballs. its not hard people.
@lizardheart said in Remove Eye of Reach:
@lucid-stew A flintlock pistol serves the same purpose but without the clunky aiming.
Pistol's range is quite limited. If using it to target something on a ship, you have to be right next to it.

I use it, frequently. I spend most of my gameplay up in the crow's nest as lookout, and I use it to support my crew on the islands when no ships are inbound. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game. If you have a problem with it, don't use it. Don't say stuff needs to be removed just because you don't use it.

That's not what I'm arguing. Weapons that will never be part of the META and completely handicap players, shouldn't belong in a game like this which is about skill and strategy and no progression.
Waves will ruin your shots and majority of fights are close range. In PvP, a pistol has always been more reliable than the Eye of reach.

The weapon is available to all, so it's still about skill and strategy, not progression, and if you're close range you can always run to the equipment locker to grab a pistol. I can adapt for the waves and nail someone in range with at least 10% accuracy from the crow's nest, which makes it viable when a ship is approaching and I've yet to climb down to engage with blunderbuss and saber. Also, what META are you even talking about? How does having the choice to use it handicap players? If anything, by removing it you handicap the people who use it regularly by forcing us to use something less effective for us.

To mirror what you just said "Just because you like it doesn't mean it should be in the game".
