Beginners Guide

  • This guide will cover the basics to get you guys sailing the seas and earning the booty!

Starting off in the game you get the choice of 2 ships, the galleon and the Sloop. Since you are reading this guide, you’ll have a basic understanding for how the ships so you can pick either (galleon is easier if you have good crew mates that don’t grief).

You’ll spawn in at an outpost, and the first step you guys wanna do is gather resources to the max. You can carry 10 cannonballs, 5 bananas, and 5 wooden planks at a time, and you can find these resources in the barrels around the island. If you are playing on the galleon I’d recommend stocking up your board supply since you are more prone to fight on board a galleon. To store planks, you must go to the middle of the ship and select your planks and put them in the wooden planks bin.

After you have stocked up, it’s time to start grabbing voyages. There are 3 traders that give voyages, the gold hoarders, the merchant alliance, and the order of souls. If you explore the island you will see each around, the gold hoarder has a golden key flag, the merchant alliance is a blue globe, and the order ignores souls is the blue glowing lights under the building.

Each trader offers different types of quests. The gold hoarders have you go to islands digging up buried treasure. The order of souls have you go to various islands killing skeleton captains. The merchant alliance has you going to islands collecting anything from chickens to pigs to snakes. I personally recommend only grabbing voyages for the gold hoarders and order of souls considering I think they’re the quickest and easiest.

So once you’re stocked and have your voyages, you’re ready to set sail.

The galleon has 3 sets of sails while the Sloop has one. Both ships basically work the same, just the galleon is a little more work because it has a larger crew. So when you start your sails will be rolled all the way up and your anchor will be down. Before you set sail, you want to select and vote for a voyage. You can find this on a table in the captains quarters. Once you select a voyage, you will be given a map. Depending on which voyage you’ve selected it will either tell you exactly where to go or you will have to locate the island on the map.

Once you know where you’re going it’s time to select it on the map and set sail!

To set sail you first want to lower your sails, lower them either half way or 3/4 the way down. Afte that you want to set the sail angle. The sail angle should be against the wind. For example, if the wind is blowing from the botttom right, you want your sails angled to the top left. You’ll know you’re doing this correctly because you will see the sail bend and hear it crackle and pop against the wind.

You want to have someone keep on eye on the wind as it changes from time to time and will change when you turn the wheel. The path to your designated island should be very simple, the boat mechanics are pretty easy to steer. The only advice I can give on steering is the wheel pops and vibrates your control at critical turn points and when it’s at the center (3 times on Sloop and 5 times on galleon). Be mindful of the pops in the wheel as that is where your wheel will be moving you.

Once you’ve reached your island, try to drop anchor as close to it as possible, but don’t sacrifice safety for proximity. Once you’ve completed your quest, you should obtain some type of loot (chest from gold hoarder quests, skull from order of souls, and whatever animal you were asked to grab from the merchant alliance quest).

When you get the loot to your ship, I recommend dropping it in your captains quarters since that is a safe place for it to sit. You can now decide whether or not you want to go on another voyage or if you want to return to an outpost to sell your loot.

Of course if you decide to do another voyage, you just repeat all the steps you just completed for the last voyage, but if you decide to return to sell your loot, you must locate an outpost in order to sell your loot.

Chests go to the gold hoarders, skulls go to the order of souls, and anything else you happen to pick up goes to the merchant alliance.

Of course through all of this madness beware of other pirates. They are usually not friendly and will attempt to sink your ship and steal your loot. Steer clear of their ships if you see them and only attack if they approach you (unless of course you’re looking for a fight).

Follow these guidelines and you’ll be sailing as a solid pirate in no time!
