heres how to do pve

  • give an option to toggle pvp mode on and off

if pvp is off then players cant see/interact with anyones loot and/or attack/kill them or there ship

    • good for questing and just chilling out

if on then well your free to attack or get kill when you want.

    • all you pvp guys can cream your pants at this all day then boast about how many ships and loots you got then follow up by saying it was so easy and "no hard feelings" but then proceed to post a pic of all the loot to boost up your internet rep.

    and 3rd
when a skull fort is up, either flag a certain area around the island as pvp to anyone who enters

    • or
make it a timed event and for the next 2hours ? then everyone in the world is flagged for pvp.

so that gives players the choices of just sitting it out, take a break, or they can participate in the bloodshed and try complete for that sweet loot

    3 good options
pve guys can do what they want
pvp guys can prove to other pvp guys who the biggest areshole is
people can participate in a world event for loot where everything is out there for keeps for a limited time

No there is already an perfectly good option, play the game as it is intended to be played or don't play at all.

  • @moogle-mogg the game does not need a PvE only mode. If you need to be invulnerable to enjoy a game then Sea of Thieves simply is not for you.

There's definitely plenty of work this game needs; better combat mechanics, more weapon variety, more enemy variety, more random world events and bosses, probably a longer respawn timer, less repetitive quests, fishing, npc ships of some form or another, etc...

What it absolutely does not need is PvE mode or safe zones. Both of these would literally kill the game as they break the core concept of what the game is about which is being a pirate.

  • @subaqueousreach Yes, you said it well. Toggling PvE/PvP would be a horrible idea.

  • @vavume i am playing as intented as a game where you can meet players and communicate and go on missions together

what I'm not doing is playing it like COD where i have to instantly kill anyone i see.

just go back and re watch al the pre release trailers and devs commentary on this

watch till about the 10sec mark - and listen to what he says

"a shared world adventure game, set in a fantastical world, will bring players together and give them the freedom to play with limitless possibilities"

i dunno about you but that sure as hell sounds different from the kinda CoD instant kill anyone you see game your telling me abaout

  • Unfortunately for those used to separating the pve and pvp experiences in other games, the intended experience here is to balance risk versus reward when it comes to sailing with treasure in your hold. The pressure builds as you find captain's chests, villainous bounties and/or exotic silks. Without the outside pressure of scanning the horizon with mounting paranoia, I would have to agree that the experience is bland and boils down to pure fetch quests. With that added challenge, what could have been a normal milk run becomes an epic game of cat and mouse. Sail away from an occupied outpost or uncomfortably close galleon to, hopefully, safer waters only to find another threat on the horizon. One of my favorite examples was sailing solo with two captain's and a villainous in my hold, having to dive straight into the storm with a sloop and two galleons hanging around the nearest outpost's islands. Fighting through the storm, patching as I go to end with felt like a race to port; a galleon still in view on the horizon.

I think you have misunderstood the intentions of this game, it is a first person shooter set on the sea where the majority of people are acting out their pirate fantasys, that involves chasing down and killing any other ships they may see, I'm sorry if you just wanted to play as a friendly merchant type then you are going to have a hard time.

  • Why should there be a PVE mode? You're basically wanting the same reward for none of the risk. What stops someone from sneaking up next to a ship in "PVP mode" that is also questing, and either switching over to get the jump on them, or raiding their boat once they go to an island to dig up treasure?

It would be grossly abused. You're asking to have safe passage to all the same benefits as people who are playing the game as intended. Don't hold your breath.

What they should do is have a "training wheels" server where you can quest without fear of being sunk, but you receive no gold, or benefits for being on that server. You're basically working for free. That sounds fair.

  • @moogle-mogg Ahoy mate, we have a large Mega thread for discussion on how to balance the game such that ALL playstyles can be catered for, it would be great if you could add yer ideas to that...

The reason we're trying to collect all opinions in one place is that it is easier for the Rare devs to find the feedback, opinions and suggestions rather than scroll through numerous similar threads.

I'll close this one down now and let ye sail on over there and thanks to everyone who has contributed so far!
