Add an actual "SOLO" login option

  • Add an actual "SOLO" playing option. I bought this game, because the website says you have the option to sail "solo". I thought that would just be me playing the game, finishing missions, exploring islands, sailing the seas, etc., just like many other games, where you can choose to play alone or with others. I was shocked to find that this game is mostly about just getting attacked by other players, every time you play, and you get no choice about being randomly attacked, for no reason. Just add a sign-in option that allows you to play WITHOUT adding other players into your world. The people who want to spend all of their time fighting other players would still be able to do so to their heart's content, but those of us who enjoy progressing in games could actually ENJOY playing the game, doing the missions, exploring islands, etc.

    • I saw others posting about creating a "PvE" environment, which would also work.

    • I saw the site developers talking about part of the server load issues being caused by the game's match-making service - By having a login option where you don't have to go through the match-making service (you could still have the option to invite friends on your crew, for co-op play), then you could cut down on server load, with a large number of people NOT using the annoying match-making service.

    • MANY potential customers are staying away from this game, because it is already well-known across many gaming boards for its toxic and annoying environment of having other players stopping you from completing missions and progressing in the game - Adding an ACTUAL "solo" login option (with ability to still invite friends to your crew for co-op) would allow Sea of Thieves to be an attractive title to people who enjoy just playing video games, without interference from internet gaming trolls.

I bought this game based on the advertised "SOLO" game option, and I am already having to take a break from the game for a while, because there is NO actual "solo" option, and this game attracts too many internet gaming trolls, because the game has no controls in place to stop game interference from other players, and those types of people are simply not worth my time. Many people have read online about the toxic environment of this game, and will not buy it. Just add a real "solo" login option (with the ability to still invite friends for your crew), as advertised, so your game can appeal to people who actually enjoy completing missions, sailing the seas, exploring islands, etc.

  • @guardianangelgg Its a shared world adventure game, I disagree like the 100 other active threads on this topic :)

  • @guardianangelgg so you bought this without doing any research to find out what kind of game it is and how it works? 5 minutes on Google would've told you that you will always see other players

  • If the pve gameplay was fun you would not care if pvp happen. Oh he stole my loot? Whatever I will go have fun getting more.

  • The entire spice to the basic gameplay loop is player versus player interaction, whether that comes in a hostile or friendly form. If you could sail around undisturbed, you'd exhaust the fun factor almost immediately. Also, this way every voyage is a thrill of excitement and paranoid dread.

  • @maleficmojo That is a invalid fact. Many players would gladly enjoy the world without the stress of PvP interaction.

  • @desolate-hollow I'm sure, but for how long. And they'd sooner or later hop back into the PVP fray, just to get some excitement. The problem seems that people have this misunderstood conception that the gains from their voyages belong to them, which they do not, nothing is yours until you turn it in. A PVE mode would just make PVP even more volatile, as people would go there solely to obliterate eachother, and then we might as well have a Battle Royale mode instead of multiplayer.

I'm coming across as rude, perhaps. But I understand your issue. I just don't see it as a problem with the game, but a misalignment with your view of what the game is, and what the game actually is. I hope when the free game-pass ordeal passes, the community will start to revert to a slightly more civilized state. The game-passers are blazing through the content and players with reckless abandon.

  • @maleficmojo I'm using the gamepass to play myself, and no you're not being rude. Thinking long-term though, I'm curious as to how this game will turn out if it doesn't cater to both parties. The game has had a rocky launch, and is already getting a bad rep. I may have the game pass... but I truly want to buy this game at full price, but only once I know this game will get better. Content isn't a problem... played since the launch date, and just sailing around doing nothing is fun on it's own right. I have yet to find a Open World game with the same environment as Sea of Thieves. But it'd be better when I didn't have to stress over hostile players. Now don't get me wrong, I love the current balance of the PvPvE aspect... But I see nothing wrong in allowing a server to just relax and have fun. I don't think if they did it, it would be a slaughterhouse. Seen plenty of posts where people love PvE and love the thrill of the hostile waters. I don't think you would even see a difference honestly.

  • This would be perfect, and would keep me playing this game forever.

I don't play this for the excitements out of the stress of playing mouse in a cat vs mouse simulator, in fact that is exactly what's keeping me from playing. There are people that just want a relaxing sailing experience. I honestly wish I had try it through gamepass—as it seems that I'll never again have that nice cooperative experience I had in the beta—because I don't want to play a game in which my role is to supply PvPers with gold out of my time of play, be constantly stressed on the time I have free instead of having a relaxing experience.

And don't tell me that that's not what the game is about, Rare themselves welcome opinions like mine as: "we are collecting ideas, suggestions and feedback for better balancing of the game to accommodate ALL play styles."

  • @desolate-hollow I am sure there are plenty of players like you, who are using the game pass as a "trial version" of the game, while trying to decide if you want to buy the retail version. That is an excellent way of testing out this game, before deciding to buy the retail version. If they don't fix this with a private (including invited friend co-op) option, or a PvE option, then they will definitely end up missing out on plenty of potential customers who do not enjoy PvP gaming, or who would like the option of choosing to play either way, when they feel like playing one way or the other, just like you can in so many other games. It would be especially great for many families, who may want to have some fun game time together with their children, but do not want to expose their children to the toxicity that exists in the only options available, in the current game state. I am the kind of player who didn't mind buying the retail version, and I even bought extra items, so that I could have the Mercenary, Black Dog, and Ferryman outfits. If they can make this game enjoyable for different types of players, then I would end up being one of their biggest micro-transaction buyers later, just like I am in other games I truly enjoy playing. However, if they won't fix the game play options, then I will just quit playing, I will be sure to avoid any Rare games in the future, and many other potential customers will simply never buy this game in the first place. If they don't fix this, then I have a feeling they will see a MASSIVE decline in players, once game pass ends for this game.

Which is fine for those who enjoy "paranoid dread", while playing a video game. Even if sailing around undisturbed would "exhaust the fun factor", then the next time a solo player logged in, if they were bored with solo mode, then they would simply select the "PvP" option and play that way. It would have no impact on regular PvP players who would still be logging in as they are now, and being matched with other players in their game. They would not even see any difference at all, in their game. It would simply allow the many of us who would enjoy a solo option (or co-op with friends) to be able to play the way we enjoy playing games.
