I'm around level 21 on everything right now, but the levels gained slowed down a lot. I spend most of today playing the game, but went from 19 to 21. Near the end of the day, I did a skeleton fort raid and gained 1 level each, which is drastically lower than around level 10 and 15 where I could gain 3-5 levels from one raid. The quests barely gave me any exp, so the best exp I can get is from the raids. Is there anything else I can do to gain exp faster? The quests/voyages are tiresome since it's basically the same thing over and over at this point, which is gonna be painful to grind around level 30 or higher. Or are skeleton forts and the 3 types of quests the only things I can do to gain exp?
Best way to level up?

Skeleton raids help out a tremendous amount, you can get almost an entire days worth of experience depending how much you play from one raid. You get skulls, chests, ornates, coffers, and merchant supplies you all get experience for: just make sure you have a good crew that knows what there doing, or that has done one before
@renteddragoon46 Skeleton forts are the best way to gain experience from factions. Sometimes you'll get lucky and find a captains chest every so often but the quests are inconsistent and often don't amount to much; then again, neither are the skeleton forts, but if you want to make bank and raise your levels, they're your best bet.
Im wondering this too. Im 26-26-23, and everything i want is from the merchant alliance. I cant find a good way to level it up. Extra loot and animals i find randomly give me nothing in terms of rep, seems like that stuff is just for a little extra gold. But even the quests for the merchant alliance don't give anything. You actually see the bar move maybe 15-20% of a level if you turn in a gold animal that your quest required, but if your quest didn't require it, or it wasn't gold, you get that little 1%. powder kegs are the same. I found a crate of cannonballs and filled it, that gave me a decent amount but they are so incredibly rare. Skeleton forts seem to be the only way, but they aren't always up, you cant just do them continuously, and like you said they aren't making nearly as much of a dent as they used to. I don't know what we're expected to do? Is rare throttling us for some reason? Is there something else they're gonna add in any day now to make it better? What did they intend for us to do when they designed it this way? I'd really like some official responses to a lot of questions on this games design. Great game tho, lots of fun.
@renteddragoon46 It's not a game you are meant to progress through quickly. The only thing I can think of is to befriend a pirate legend & do the legendary quests with them. Also, have friends on standby to invite you when the forts are up if they have an opening in their crew. If you could become a legend easily in little to no time the word legendary would lose its meaning wouldn't it? This is the fastest route. Also, cycle for the gunpowder barrel, golden, and black animal quests. Don't do riddles on gold hoarders unless you end up on the island anyways. Only do maps with multiple treasures. Don't let quests take you unreasonably far around the map. Do the mystics quests in larger crews and try to do only the crews with two or more captains. Visit shipwrecks. Thats all the advice I have.
@thecdwarrior Oh yeah, they updated the merchant quests so you can't over cycle them so try to judge when you should just settle. Otherwise, you will have to deal with waiting until 6 A.M. the next in-game day to get another. Also, know where the animals live. you can find maps on the internet that tell you what lives on what island.
