Attacking forts...

  • Me and my crew have tried attacking the forts but always come across over crews who just kill you before even attacking the fort, there should be some type of co op play to this until the fort is taken care of this would be much more fun if it was PvE and not PvP vs PvE; I understand it's about being a pirate but it makes the forts not worth going to at all I gave up on them as they aren't fun you just make them PvE and share the loot out so everyone gets something honestly we don't bother with forts to many trolls.

  • Oh yeah if you team up with another crew for a fort there's a good chance they'll take the goods and run and leave you with the scraps that or you'll be fighting waves of skeletons and persistent sloop and galleons who want some treasure

  • I have to admit I have had the opposite, for the most part. I have attacked 4 strongholds since launch and their outcome has been:

    • solo’d stronghold. No other ships showed up. Such a long fight yet so much loot.
    • Teamed up with 1 other sloop. Completed it, split loot and we went our separate ways.
    • teamed up with 3 other sloops, split loot, escorted to outpost, cashed in, got drunk in tavern.
    • had a galleon attack us until we GPB mine bombed their galleon 2 times. Eventually we left.

So out of 4 strongholds, only once did we have a problem.

We might have been extremely lucky. Oh, we also learned that if you see a skull cloud, wait awhile, if there are no signs of someone attacking it (flashing red eyes) then this usually means people on the server are not interested in it.

  • Do you try talking to the other crew before you attack them? If they decide they want to be hostile then act like a pest and keep attacking till they leave.

I spent about half an hour trying to sink this 4 man galleon that was guarding the fort in my sloop before we killed them enough times they didn't come back.

We then encountered another sloop and proceeded to work with them to finish the fort and split the loot.

With the amount of loot that's on the fort it needs the risk/reward.

  • I have yet to meet another crew that will talk. Its shoot and never talk every time i meet another crew any time.

They just use the big skull in the sky as bait to get people near so they can "PvP" unfortunately PvP means spin in circles for an hour until someone runs out of planks/cannonballs or someone boards with a gunpowder keg. All other forms of combat are useless since players respawn faster than most can kill them. Combat is also clunky as eff, and relies more on latency than skill.

I've seen ships troll around forts all damn night, they don't care about the fort or it's treasure they just want to screw with people and their boats. I get it PvP is awesome and battle royal is the new in thing, but it's getting old fast. I hope Rare gives something for PvPvE to keep both ends happy, people who want ship battles are just going nuts on everything that moves because they have no other avenue to find combat, and people who just want to do voyages etc, just end up running as soon as they see any ships. Which makes both sides unhappy...

I'm also really disappointed in the "Social" aspect of the game, first week everyone was talking and it was fun times, now NOBODY talks in public, nope they are all in their own party chat so people they attack can't hear them coordinating against you etc. On PC we try in vain to type to people, but they either can't respond or don't care, the whole thing just feels toxic as hell.

I read these stories of people working together, and honestly think it's just propaganda to give the illusion of cooperation because I've sunk hundreds of hours in and only once even had someone reply via voice or text near a fort encounter.

It's like the guys who designed this whole thing never understood how people deal with each other in anonymous situations. I can't tell you how many times my wife/kids/friends have just been like "why the heck doesn't x work like y" and I'm just like "yeah, I honestly don't think they even played this themselves".

    /end rant

I hope things improve massively when this May update hits (and it better not be the last damn day of May either)

100% agree I wish there was more of a social aspect to the game to
