Feedback -Spawn Protection Needed!

  • Feedback post for Development team.

    Spawn protection is absolutely needed!!

This could be achieved in a variety of ways, whether it is if other players are standing on your spawn, you spawn elsewhere, or for say 20 seconds you have I-frames to protect you after spawning.

I will give you an example of why this is necessary. Last night I was playing solo and with one friend. While we were attempting to return our first chest to an outpost another crew began to attack us. Which is fine, intended part of the game. It was fun, until we died and the 4 man crew boarded our ship, and spawn camped us for about half an hour.

I mean, there is no gaming experience more enjoyable and engaging as hearing the sound of 4 blunderbusses' reloading as you load in after being spawn killed 5 times.... If you can't tell, that is pure sarcasm. Instant death before you can even react or attempt to fight back should have no place in any game. Also from reviewing you own "Pirates code" I would say this clearly violates the 6th rule listed there.

I strongly recommend you introduce some form of spawn protections. Perhaps a spawn room on the ship where only your crew can go, and cannot place chests down, or rotating spawns to prevent camping. Or simply I frames for a set period of time. This is the kind of frustrating grief filled gameplay that drives people away from your otherwise great game.

You made a wonderful game, it looks, sounds, and feels great. Please make some quality of life changes so that people are not driven away by easily preventable bad behavior from other players.

Pirates may not have been the nicest of people, however even they were not filthy spawn camping griefers.

  • @cutxthroat-kid You can just scuttle your ship and spawn on a new one, away from them.

  • Absolutely agree. Yes, you CAN just scuttle your ship or reload your game to get a different session. HOPEFULLY away from spawn campers or outpost campers. Or maybe you just trade yours in for a different set.

We need to FIX the system. I've seen other people post lots of great ideas. My favorite is having outposts be a "safe zone" where you cannot be killed (except for falling?). Think of an outpost as a "finish line"...as long as you can make it to dry land without being killed or sunk, you're safe to turn in your treasure. And the most the other pirate crew can do is tip the hat and "get you next time." Or as soon as you leave. Maybe we could have a drink, THEN kill each other.

It's terrible to get shot in the back while you are in-menu with a merchant (I hear the guy shout "He's AFK") . Then his buddy shoots me as I respawn next to the map table before I can raise my pistol as they loot my treasure-less sloop.

On the other hand, if you legitimately defeat another crew (without sinking the ship), you SHOULD be allowed to loot the ship without fear of them respawning below decks and coming back to kill you again, especially if they are now "invincible" for a short period of time.

It's an easy thing to say "fix the respawn system so campers can't punish me all the time". Much harder to actually do. But please could you try?

And a "Death Cost" is NOT the answer.
