    1. 4 Player Galleon is the biggest at this time. You can also solo, or do a 2 or 3 man.
    2. It does not seem to have much story at this time, but there are loads of fetch quests and kill quests that gain you gold and achievements with each NPC faction.
    3. It is for me, but everyone is different. It definite suffers from a lack of content, but the game is a thrill - especially if you love to PvP.
    4. I like it a lot. PIRATES are coo
  • @crampedtiara06 1. Four to three on a gallon two to one for sloop
    2. Yes voyages
    3. Yes as long as you don't mind learning the game your self and it not holding your hand
    4. Yes the most fun I've had playing a game in recent years

  • DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! trust me, not worth 60 dollars at all

  • @crampedtiara06
So far every game i have played as group of 2 in a sloop we have not been left alone to carry out any pve content.. Constantly chased around the map by groups of 4 in larger faster ships who sink you for a laugh... Even when you have no treasure to take
if your a large group looking to whoop parties of 1 or 2 players this will be great for you.
    Bit of a gankfest

  • @crampedtiara06 Hi, this is the most fun I've had in years. I met my crew through the forum. If you're unsure about purchasing you can always use your two free weeks gamepass trial and give it a go? See if you enjoy it.

  • Save your money. Get game pass free and try out.

  • @crampedtiara06

    1. 4 on a galleon, so you and your mates could sail as a group of 2 galleons, 4 two man sloops or 8 solo sloops. Keep in mind, turning in treasure chests awards gold on a per crew basis. So if you want to max gold income, I recommend 2 four man galleons.
    2. Sort of, there are occasionally messages in a bottle that are found on islands that will give you a random quest for one of the three trading companies. Skeletal forts are separate from trading companies, but you will need to turn in loot to the trading companies. The Kraken is out there to hunt as well.
    3. It depends on what you define as worth. If you and your mates like 4 player co-op games, then this will be something new to test your teamwork skills. Sailing a galleon well requires excellent teamwork from all 4 players.
    4. Again, it depends on what you define as fun. This game is a bit like an MMO in the sense that anyone can attack you at any time. Sailing around getting loot and turning it in successfully can be as easy as that, or you might be constantly attacked by other players looking to steal your booty. The three trading companies offer 3 types of fetch quests: go find a chest and bring it back, go kill a skeleton and bring back its skull, go find chickens, pigs, snakes, etc and bring them to a specific outpost in a set amount of time. Any loot from skeletal forts will also need to be brought to the right trading company to exchange for gold. FYI, the kraken will get harder every time you fight it.
  • SAVE YOUR MONEY!

This game feels like an early access game very little content.... if you really want to try it get the game pass trial and try it out and even if you do like the game its not worth the retail price stick with the game pass as you will get bored after a few weeks.

  • No more than 4 people per crew max. And no you cannot have two ships sync in the same server... at least not manually. That being said me and my friends are a total of 6 people and we tend to do a 4-man and 2-man groups or 2x 3-man groups. I personally love the sloop and prefer to use it whenever possible that is why I always offer to be part of the 2 man.

The entire game can be considered questing and side stories. Honestly the best way to describe it is that it has no main story which seems to be a break it point for many. This is a game that requires you to make your own fun which is possible. I think its worth the money because I know I will get enough hours out of it if not more and feel satisfied.

It is fun for me in my friends that is a question of opinion. What is fun for me may not be fun for you.

  • That's actually one on the smartest threads around here!

    1. 4 max on a big ship, with veeeery little chances you play on the same server. You wil have to split in two groups I fear.

    2. There are 3 quest givers (find & unburry chest, find & capture animals and find & kill skeleton captains). You gain reputation that leads to longer voyage sending you on further islands. Honestly, you do it for having a purpose for sailing and for unlocking comestics more than anything else. Hunting the kraken, attacking forts and PVP are much more interesting, but it's not incompatible at all.

    3. Yes if you use the Game Pass (10$ per month, with 14 days free) to test and play sometimes. Yes if you purchase it and plan to play it every months for more than 7 months. No for any other case — for the moment. I think that like every new multiplayer game, a perdiod of 3 months is needed for it to get out of it's launch issues.

    4. Depends on your interest for pirate things, and being more pirate! I'm personally having a lot of fun with friends ;)

    1. 4, at the moment. No way to get more than 4 people on the same server, either, so no fleets.
    2. No story, just fetch/combat quests.
    3. I think so.
    4. Yes, loads of fun. I do hope they start adding more content soon, though, or it'll wear thin in a month or so. But they seem to be pretty committed to keep adding stuff, so I'm not too worried.
  • @crampedtiara06

    1. As pointed out, a maximum of 4 players can be in a crew. You are send into random lobbies, so ending up as a fleet is unlikely as you cannot select a specific lobby (which actually prevents players from overpowering a whole lobby!).
    2. You have automatically generated quests of 3 types: treasure hunts (riddles or X marks the spot), bountyhunt for skeleton crews and delivery missions for the merchants.
    3. & 4. For some people it's worth the money, for some people it isn't. Keep in mind that this is basically a sandbox game, if you like exploring or fighting you will find lot's of things to do, if you are looking to play a rich story you will be disappointed. Also there is no thing like levelling up to upgrade your characters, you only change cosmetic details and get access to more complex voyages. So you should think if this matches your needs.

Actually asking this in the forum before buying the game is a good point that you think about it carefully and not just buy something and complain about it later - a good way to do things!

  • @crampedtiara06 GAME PASS 14 day free trial and then you can make up your mind.

Just for the record they delivered everything advertised and the people complaining about no enough content clearly didn't do research before they brought the game.

    1. is answered a lot already (4 per ship or 2), talk of clans or guilds or something down the road. There are about 9 in our group. We all get on discord and play in groups. We do that anyway though, even when we aren't playing. Like a guild without a game.
    2. loads of quests. "story" is ambient in this game. Out there to be discovered and made in a rich environment, but no active narrative. If you are fine with Eve Online or Minecraft (or old school destiny 1) you will be fine here.
    3. I think so. A lot of people talk about lack of content. I disagree. But I guess I play it like a team shooter that has a more persistant environment and a bit more "hunting" in the pvp. Has the same type of 'progression' as PubG, Fortnite, Team Fortress, Overwatch, Starcraft, HotS, LoL or DOTA have. Just feels more open-worldy so people think it should be an RPG. I love it.
4.I have a had a ton of fun in the betas and the final game now. Beat the kraken last night with 7 booms barrels. rescued a gallion that then tried to attack us and got rekt. done a bunch of quests that I personally like just fine, though they are just the "go get things" stuff that any other game calls content. sunk a bunch of boats already in final version. parked my boat on the gold hoarders tent.

I think a lot of people are coming in looking for something its not and missing what it is. If you like open-world pvp'ing, the danger of losing stuff that took you time to get, if you hate the grind to get to the 'end-game' state of most mmo's, then this game might be for you. Also, if you like the idea of soft skills (like communication and planning) being as important or more important than twitch skills.

I would quibble with this, though we love what we are seeing so far.

I don't see anything even close to the character clothing options shown in the various trailers. Why they aren't in game is beyond me, since they obviously finished them in some cases, over a year ago.
I'm not seeing things like the Manta Ray shown off several times in trailers.
Player matchmaking is missing a lot of basics... adding a friend while in game, or accepting a new or replacement crew member while in game is missing... people literally just show up on your ship in your crew, but the active quest for them is partially broken, because they can't even get a crate for fetch quests.

There are a host of others, but they DID deliver a REALLY fun experience, and both my wife and myself REALLY look forward to content additions and balance improvements in the future.

To the OP: Microsoft is giving refunds in the store for digital purchases if people are unhappy with it. We JUST decided to spring for it last week, and don;t regret that decision at all. if you are on the edge, loooks for discounted microsoft/xbox gift cards online, and use those to purchase to save some dubloons. I think we picked up $50 gift cards for $40 a pop.

I give you details here - game's not finished product and should not be sold at full price. Achievements are turned off, DLC's are turned off... game is fun but there's flaws, all I'm saying.

    Here is my opnion:

1 & 2 - Ppl already stated, so dont need to repeat =)

3 - For full price they asked for? NO. Reason: Lack of Content, for both PvP and PvE. It is more like a Indie Game than a AAA game right now, later when they add more stuff, might worth the full price they asked for.
Solution: Get the game on the Xbox Game Pass, THAT is worth right now.

4 - I liked the game, even being a most of the time solo player. But since i am from SA and only have NA server (to me), the game becomes totally frustating when comes to PvP, due to ping/desync problems. And also have some lack of content (like random events, right now we only have the Kraken, wich only happens for Galeons, but there is 0 reward from it).

And a advise: Sea of Thieves ISN'T sandbox!!! You can't alter world, destruct the world, build or anything related to a sandbox. Character and ship customization isn't sandbox! Sea of Thieves is a Action/Adventure game.

  • @gareeet I'm almost 100% positive there was no mention of a manta ray and I'm pretty sure you have to unlock most of the clothing however I completely agree with you on the matchmaking it does seem really under developed.

There was a manta ray in several of the old trailers, maybe the E3 ones? Why he was removed is beyond me... and why we can hear a whale in the distance while sailing but they aren't in the game is beyond me.

  • @gareeet Not really related but I'd love to see more sea life like the manta ray and a whale. Imagine that sailing peacefully one day no ships in sight and then just BOOM you've hit whale you got holes, your filling with water, oh yea and theirs a massive corpse/knocked out whale at the front of the ship

Whale and shark hunting were a lot of fun in Black Flag.. I'd MUCH rather see them than fishing. If I had my choices, I'd add a sea turtle (with an option to rope and ride one as a challenge), a manta ray (Maybe we could grasp them underwater for a faster ride) and an octopus. (While diving they could grab us and try to drown us.)
Just having more sealife diversity alone would be great, but why not make them fun play mechanic additions as well?
(And add a drunken manta ray rider achievement while you are at it...lol!)

    1. 4 player crews but with randoms you can invite more to your ship
    2. Voyages is the games quest and progression system. It doesn't have a main story quest, their all side stories
    3. No, it's not worth the total value at this moment
    4. Yeah, most of the time it is, especially when playing with others. The voyages are all basically the same so if you play by yourself it feels like a grind as it can be repetitive.
I bought the game because the pirate frenzy hit me hard. But id your unsure about it, don't buy it, hold off on it.
  • if you have a group of friends to play with you will enjoy this game 10x more than the people who play solo or with randoms.

  • 1-four
2-not really, there are 3 flavours of essentially the same fetch quest
3-no - just use a two week trial of gamepass, if you aren't bored by 2 weeks, then maybe consider buying it. But it really isn't worth the full price in the slightest.
4-yes. It is as fun as you make it. But that's more to do with how you create your own fun in the barebones game, since it so badly lacks content.
